OK thats it, I'm sorry boys but this is the beginning of the end. Warning disclaimers on a preview for a bareback site? straight sections? straight guys for gay eyes where the chick is featured as much as the guys? the over laid commercial content everywhere now? I can't even remember what the site used to be called, but i miss it cause we, and unfortunately you are becoming homogenized (i assure you no pun intended) why not just make the site straight and call it a day?

does no one else (i figured the other leather and fetish admirers would get this most) feel the same engulfing fear of that which has happened to everything good and alternative in this world?

I know exactly what you're talking about and I admire your ability at such a young age to see it. You're right; it's not just the homogenization of JUB, but of life in the 21st century in general.

For example, I got a job several years ago that entails traveling all over the U.S. and thought, at first, that it'd be great to see all the parts of the country I hadn't seen before. Now, several years later, I can't tell you how eye-opening and disappointing it's been to see how much of the country looks like every other part of the country. Atlanta, L.A., Dallas, Cleveland (etc etc) are all pretty much interchangeable these days. London feels a lot like New York and Manhattan has lost a lot of its character.

I suppose it's globalization, the internet and the corporatization of just about every aspect of life that smooths down our differences and makes us more "alike", but not in a good way, I don't think. That which is "alternative" (to use your word) can't compete any more (Greenwich Village, which for decades was the bastion of all that's alternative is now bland, straight, predictable and formulaic) and the mediocre take over. Independent bookstores are replaced by chains, Mom and Pop bakeries can't afford the rents and so go under, and, yes, gay and other alternative lifestyles get swallowed up by the consumerist aesthetic. It's mass hypnosis, ultimately, and it's very sad to witness over the course of many years.

Good for you for being awake and alert enough at age 20 to have the sensitivity to feel that "engulfing fear".

Not sure how this got stuck into Leather and Fetish, as it's only marginally what you were talking about.

A French movie called Playytime, by Jacques Tati. Not gay, not leather, not fetish, but absolutely on topic. And one of the most delightful (albeit pessimistic) films ever made.

your right, this has nothing to do with leather and fetish except that even using the term fetish in these contexts is a contradiction in terms, and that by some small thread of the sword of Damocles (come on Rocky Horror boys), fetish is the only 'alternative' (i know it's become as tacky as the rest of the terms, could someone suggest something more appropriate?) outlet we still have.

I dared to post a full rant in the Twinks, Jocks and whatever board (i know i should be slapped for not knowing them by heart, by even the forum names have changed to fit the PC) under the 'wft has happened to xtube' thread and i'm already receiving verbal beatings from members... members who have ads all over their posts mind you, but a few members all the same...) so if this thread fits your perception of it all please add your 2 cents... or like a buck fifty these days...

and just yeah it was seeing that disclaimer on the bareback teaser thing on the home page that sent me over the edge... we still own bareback as a fetish right??? :P

Sorry, sweetie, but JUB needs to make money. It is first and foremost a porn site and it's not making money out of nowhere. Also, since few members of the forum are paying members...($30 donations) the site doesn't make much. But for those who ARE JUB supporters, they don't see any ads.

For example, I get to surf without seeing them. If you want to support JUB, and the environment it fosters through its forums, then why not shell out a few bucks? Plus, you don't have to see the ads and a few of the other perks JUB supporters get.

And if all you need is a bunch of ads to make you feel as though your "alternatives" are being properly recognized as the "good alternatives" they are and not the fact that the content in the forum is the same and still as full of all things "good and alternative" then were you really appreciating the content to begin with?

ok well i may be reading wrong but that ad thing seems to be way off the mark.

as the for payment justification... isn't that kind of like the justification the Germans gave for joining the Gestapo? by saying you've been pushed into paying for a forum just to get out of being attacked by ads (which by the way it was my understanding that JUB gets money from Products, full member content, and the companies that want their sites featured, not from consumers) is justifying my point even further.

Yes it's society, not JUB alone... or porn or the gay community, but if everyone goes along with it, it's just as bad as those who control it... following the status quo can't be a get out of jail free card...
