Thanks alot for your friendly reply and I hope you understand I was just kidding about you being often drunk and often drinking far too much alcohol. So how about bringing a girlfriend back home? Would that be allowed? Do you have straight siblings who need to live with the same kind of rule?

And i agree with others that you have enough good friends (straight and gay) to support you. So your gay cousin is also not allowed to enter the house of your parents? And is your gay cousin shouldered when he is on some sort of family party? And how about the parents of your gay cousin? Do these parents also struggle with a 'ruined future' (or suffer from gossip of others that they have raised a gay son)?

I think you don't worry too much about the reaction of your parents as you are not very much depending on them. It also seems to me that your parents are no reli-fundi's (as you did not mention anything like this). Maybe the situation will be totally different within a few months. How about your own acceptation of being a gay guy?

Well, just go on with your life as an open & proud gay guy of 18.

No siblings at all (sadly), so I can see just a tiny bit where they are coming from RE no grandchildren, but apart from that, I still can't forgive them for a loooooooooong time.

I'm 100% sure a girlfriend would be allowed to come, even stay the night - it's definitely the gay thing. I'm quite... gay about being gay, too! :D

Oh, my cousin and his fiancé (boyfriend to everyone else in the family -_-) are allowed to come anytime, too! Go figure!

We don't talk to his parents (our mums are sisters) any more (for about 8 years now :/ ), but from what we know they're not hard on him or anything and I don't think they are really up in arms about the whole grandkids thing - they have a daughter as well. The family as a whole accept Lance and Jason, but me being the only other male grandson of mums mum (Nanna), I don't know how that will go...

Oh I am broke as all hell, but welfare will get me through till I find a job.

^ yeah I totally understand about being an only child too mate, in the end re grandkids like I said before its up to you, but IMO no-one (gay or straight) should have to feel obliged like they 'owe' their parents grandkids, especially not an only child. Fuck what society thinks is the standard.

and good luck finding a job... Im entering my 10th month in this stint of being unemployed (ive been before) its hell out there lately youve just gotta be bloody lucky. (although next week i may be finaly picking up some casual work)

Hopefully you get a good centrelink benefit while that happens, before I could get on Newstart at 21 I was getting really bad ($40-$80 a fortnight) payments on Youth Allowance depending on mym mum's earnings and other factors. was pitiful. A job would definitely help you in moving out, cause centrelink is barely survivable on (well I guess thats the point really.)

Is that all?! Well I'll be independent (more than 90 mins from home to uni, not living at home, single etc.) so I'll get the full youth allowance - something like $400 a fortnight w/out rent assistance - but with uni coming up and textbooks to buy, that won't go very far at all! :/

Yeah that's true, I was (and still am) living at home, and theres so many different variables that determine what you can get paid, but yeah $400 sounds about right, On newstart at the moment i'm getting around $490 a fortnight.
 
Hey all,

I generally am a light drinker (two or three large drinks on a night out satisfies me usually), but the whole scenario of being at a proper gay club, all dressed up, on the edge of coming out and kissing a guy made me do what I did - so I don't think I have an alcohol issue, thanks for the concerns though and I have learnt my lesson.
 
There is nothing to be ashamed of with having one to many, as long as it is not a regular thing. God knows I've embarrassed myself plenty of times in the past by drinking past the point where I don't know when to stop.

Ahhh although everyone was straight, newtown is a fun place to get pissed with workmates that are close...
 
I only ever really drink socially and I'm not very social, so I don't get wasted too often! lol Most times I'll get a bit tipsy and stupid and go "time for water and food instead!", but that night, happy hour went on for about 3! lol
