I'm pretty sure there has been a thread about this already, but I am curious...

What is the best advice you have ever received?

What's the best advice you've given?

The best advice I have received was from my dad, when I first went off to college. His words: "Don't fuck up."

I don't know whether I have had the chance to give any meaningful advice to anyone yet. I would surmise the best I have given was to a friend deciding where to go to school; I just told him to make his own decision, and not to listen to me or anybody else.
That, or repeating to a rather impatient friend of mine that "Patience is, indeed, a virtue."

Please, share what you have come to know.:-)

I think from my mother...to be myself basically, for whoever I am. She said this confronting me about my sexuality and she'd love me no matter what...I was kinda in denial and still struggling to accept myself at the time still so I denied it.
She also noticed a few months ago that I was extremely down, depressed actually, and said that I should free myself from the fears that hold me back and that once I got that done, I'd be so much happier...

The best advice I've given...I have no idea. My friends all tell me I'm great giving advices and listening but I vaguely remember an advice I gave my best female friend when she broke up with her boyfriend because of a whole lot of dramas...to think more about herself and value herself more instead of putting herself to 2nd place. They got back together but whenever there's these certain dramas going on between them and she talks to me I, every once in a while, remind her of that.

My mother once told me and my sister to "go out and sleep around" while we're young because once you get older and have a family you can't do that anymore.

I agreed with what she was saying, but it's not something I wanna hear my mum say to me.

"dont ever let anyone tell you your less of a human being because of the things you choose to do with your life"

my dad..

I once told a friend, "Just sing along with the songs on the radio while you're driving, and don't give a shit what people think about you when you're at a stoplight."

She seemed to have lightened up quite a bit after that...

Take risks to realise your aspirations, and never look back.

Never regret a decision, well planned.

Never fear, the unknown.

Always a student, be. Let life's lessons, be your teacher.

" If your not in bed by midnight consider coming home" that was from my father when i was about 16.

i mis-read the title into:

"Best Advice ever received or given head " !oops!

Received: "No matter what ... Keep smilin'!!" :D

Given: "No matter what ... Keep smilin'!!" :-<

Keep smilin'!!(*8*)

Thanks for replying... I find the wide variety of what everyone considers their best advice, given or received, to be intriguing. It shows how different people are, and what they consider to be more important.

Again, thanks for replying!

One of my teachers at school in my final year said the most important thing and the thing that will get you through the final exams are the 3 's'

Study, Sleep, Sex.

As much as I loved them, my parents never really gave me advice but the best piece of advice I've ever heard is:

"Pay yourself the first 10% of whatever you earn"

I wish I'd had that at 15.

As far as given? Perhaps just, "Life is about choices. You HAVE a choice." I can't claim copywrite but I've used it.

I have heard a lot of inspirational things, two that stand out in my head are:

"Speak quietly and carry a big stick."

"Expect perfection, and accept excellence."

"don't expect anything in return"

and i still don't so i won't be disappointment after.
