Best method to learn touch-typing?

I finally want to commit to learn touch-typing! There have been times in my life where I would seriously attempt it and give up on typing programs after getting frustrated too soon, so I revert back to using my 2 fingers and staring at the keyboard like a deer. Any of you remember that popular Mavis Beacon typing program? I hated everything about it!

So I'm open to good tips on programs and methods to learn touch typing.

Best way is to try going to a typing class. I started typing when I was 10 years old, I was using two fingers at first then when I was 15 I started getting the hang of it role playing games in chat rooms and stuff.

I then figured out how to type without looking at the keyboard, I took typing classes in College I got around 68 words per minute I am sure it's decreasing with age but practice makes perfect and that's what I've been doing. You also have to learn where the keys are on the keyboard, once you learn where all the keys fall into place it will be a lot easier to type the more you type the faster your fingers will find the keys and you will be typing like a pro.

I've been typing since I was in high school. The problem is, I'm so use to using a PC, I count the delete button as a regular key so when I make an error, its cleared just as fast. If I had to use the original type writer, I would be out of correction tape in no time, lol. I've been trying to use my thumb to type on my iPhone but I just can't get my thumbs to cooperate so I'm learning to type fast with one finger, lol. I have no patience at this stage to learn to type with my thumbs but I couldn't imaging having to type on a pc suing 2 fingers, it would drive me crazy. Good Luck!

I think its a lot better plus you can't use backspace so you are screwed if you make a mistake.

The drum sounds mean you made a mistake and so it will just keep going even if you made the mistake. I went with three lined sentences cause I was typing so fast that I couldn't keep my eyes fixed on the words because they were too fast too read.

I think you need to continue to type even if you made the error, its a test to where you can't delete or correct the errors you made.

Even when you mistyped a word you still need to keep typing, and once the clock runs out, it will grade you.

Yeah I used a different test on that other thread and I think it's not as accurate because you're just typing words and not a sentence.

For some reason I thought this thread was gonna be about using an ipad or smartphone to type which is a tad daunting.

I learned from playing online games where you had the arduous task of learning to type while looking at the screen because if you're looking at which keys to hit, chances are you're dying a lot and getting other people mad at you. I really think those typing programs don't help that much. A lot of it is just memorization and practice over time.

I will say as a random tidbit. Not all keyboards are created equal. I do not like the one for my laptop at all. I found it much easier to learn to type on a normal keyboard than a laptop one.
