Wow. That's like buying a new car and having it pull into garages for oil and filter changes whether you want to go there or not.

Already knew this... It happens in Win7 too. If there's a problem with it, just disable it, most of the time the update is critical for security reasons.

If you ask me, I wish they wouldn't even allow people to disable them.

When there are updates it pops up and I always install them but what really pisses me off is it keep bugging you to restart the pc. You can tell it to remind you later but the longest is 4 hours and then you only have about 5 minutes or so to tell it to remind you again later or it shuts off by itself. Why can't it just wait till I want to turn the pc off? Silly computer!

meh. i'll keep mine automatic. so i dont have to remember to keep checking.

On both of my computers, the updates download automatically but do not install until I turn the computer off.

um...ok...thanks..that's useful...

You didn't pose a question. I thought you were merely passing along some information and offering advice. I was simply commenting on it.

I guess everybody's entitled to an opinion as long as they don't express them.

I hate it when they restart your computer by themselves. I'd install them myself anyway, but as mentioned, if I leave anything open on my computer overnight and Vista decides there's an update it needs, it'll just restart no matter what.
