Yeah, this song has been done to death. Beyonce does a decent job; however, she has to add so many other elements, such as growling and grunting, to the song to distract from the fact that she does not have the natural abilities to do the song justice.

But overall I much prefer Beyonce. She's the complete package. I think her voice is excellent, actually. Powerful with great range. She has great stage presence & star quality too. Looks amazing. Has weight issues, always a perverse bonus.

I really don't get all the hatred thrown at her. My only criticism would be regards over-exposure. Maybe its that over familiarity thats bred such contempt? Whatever, I kinda like her. Not enough to buy her music though.

They hate because she's great boo. Her record sales intimidate them. Her beauty makes them feel like frogs. Her success makes them green with envy.

There's no contest here. Etta James MADE that song. She's a legend.

Beyonce is great, but she didn't make the song a hit, she's just riding on its popularity while giving it the kind of vocals it requires.

In the film, her singing lacks the depth and richness of Etta's and you can tell in this film she's singing as Beyonce singing an Etta James song, not playing and singing as "Etta."

It's not hatin', since I appreciate her. But there is no contest.
