Biden says Obama approved ad was terrible

Because McCain didn't say it about Clinton, he said it about her proposal.

Palin had just made a joke about hockey moms being like pit bulls but with lipstick, so Obama's comment seemed to be referring directly back to Palin herself.

And Obama was referring to the proposals offered by the McCain/Palin campaign.

Everyone just thinks that he was referring to Palin. No, he didn't help things by not correcting everyone's assumptions, but people shouldn't have assumed that he used the phrase in the worst way. It's just wrong to assume that people say/do the worst, no matter who the person is.

Why has no one suggested that they laughed for the same reason all those at the Republican convention did when Palin used the lipstick bit -- because it was funny?

Probably because it was. But the thing is, people are always looking for or dis-reputing possible flaws.

We're human, is what we do.

But that is a very likely possibility.

That's possible but very unlikely.

The lipstick reference had been all over the Internet and TV political shows. There's never been a campaign more plugged into what's going on in their supporter's public conversation than the Obama campaign -- the whole Internet social network and cable news is what they're all about. Add to that the audience's reaction, which was clearly responding to more than the old fashioned laugh line, and you have to conclude either that Obama was suddenly totally out of the loop of that week's political conversation or he was referring to Palin. Although it's possible Obama innocently just happened to use a denigrating joke connecting lipstick and pig, it's just very unlikely.

Do I really have to explain this??

Because when Palin made her joke it was about herself and when Obama made it it was about his opponent.

If you're a woman and refer to yourself as a pit bull with lipstick in front of a crowd of your supporters that's a completely different thing than a male adversary calling you a pig with lipstick in front of a crowd of people who don't like the woman being referred to.

Your application of logic is lacking. You pick two possibilities which appeal to you, and ignore others.
This is why you're not really believable in political discussion.
