He's all for himself which is fine but he doesn't have to be a little bitch about it. He didn't have to make his whole alliance cry and feel sorry for him and then throw them under the bus and turn on them. None of it was neccessary.
Yes he did. How else could he guarantee that Jenn and Frank would know he was all in on this new alliance? He had to burn his bridges publicly and completely. Otherwise Frank/Jenn had no reason to believe that Dan wouldn't survive one week and then go back to working with the Quackers against them.
Dan's plans often involve creating a perception of himself amongst the house and it's easy to fall for them if you miss those moments when he's alone and talking to the camera.
