you don't choose to be gay or straight but you do choose to act on your urges. That's why it's such a shame for some men to have to hide their true selves and deny their natural urges by marrying a woman and having children with her just to prove something to their friends and families.
I don't choose to be left handed, but I do choose how much butter I want on my toast.

Well-put, austex!

We choose to be gay. We choose to be gay in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win, and the others, too.

I much prefer the possibilty of being gay as a choice, rather than being some kind of freak experiment of nature, and demanding my liberty for that reason.

I don't understand your post. Don't know how someone can "choose" to be attracted to someone. Its also funny how straights can say that gays choose to be gay and then when you ask them to come up with a reason for it, they can't.

For those that feel they made the choice "to be gay":

Why do you feel the need to believe it was a choice? (many say they don't like the idea of being born gay because it means they had no choice) Is choosing to be gay such an accomplishment that you want to be held responsible for it? You weren't responsible for a lot of your other characteristics...

From my experience, choosing to be gay would be a pretty dumb thing to do, I'm not sure what the motivation behind it would be. Not only that, I don't know how you make this choice. Do you keep telling yourself "I am gay" until you eventually find you are? (I think more often you hear people saying "I'm not gay...I'm not gay" and they're still gay).

I'm rather confused about this...

How then are you going demand your liberty if you made a rather life-altering choice and are responsible for your lack of liberty? (or acceptance, or whatever it is).
