Bill Clinton to skip Obama speech.

I'm watching Hillary's speech right now and she is doing an outstanding job. Before the speech, someone handed Bill a Unity sign. He looked at it for a second, and put it down.

They said he wasn't going to be there because he was concerned he would get too much of the attention. Considering how negatively the media portrayed him during Hillary's run, I can't blame him for feeling that way.

I really don't think he's not attending out of spite.

When Hillary proclaimed at the beginning of her speech that she was a "proud supporter of Barack Obama" most of the arena stood and cheered. Bill remained seated and only sprung to his feet when he saw the camera was on him.

ICO disagrees with me, but I think if Bill Clinton held that "Unity" sign up, the crowd would have erupted. It would have been a strong sign to everyone that NOW is the time to come together.

I think Bill will have to give a " passing of the torch" speech to further solidify the convention. If he hit another grand slam there will be no need for him to be there Thursday. it would be interesting to see them both on stage together and how they would interact with each other.

You must have been watching a different network than I. Didn't you notice the proud, supportive smile and enthusiastic applauding he did? You could see from the look on his face he was one proud man during and after her speech. "That's my wife!" was written all over his face.

Look forward to one of the best ten minute speeches you ever heard, tomorrow night.

More divisive bullshit. If Bill bent over to scratch his ass the pundits would turn it into a "Clinton Moons Obama" headline at the moment.

After Hillary's speech, the Republicans will be falling all over themselves to find hidden agendas in everything. They want that Clinton/Obama rift to last until November.

I don't know or care why he isn't going to the speech, but I'm certainly not going to attempt to invent reasons when I simply don't know.

Hopefully, everybody will be listening to Obama's speech, not looking at the audience, on Thursday night.

No Way No How No McCain. That's my stand. What's yours?

I say we reserve what we may hear about Bill Clinton until after his speech tomorrow. Hillary more than did her part. It's his turn tomorrow.

I'm still not convinced that Bill Clinton's speech tonight is going to be that important when it comes to bringing the party together - unless of course he goes out on stage and trashes Obama.

Hilary did a fantastic job last night and the ball is very much in Obama's court, the key to bringing the party together is now on Obama's speech. He needs to outline and define the message of change on Thursday and show that he has a serious policy agenda to go along with his 'inspiration'. What's been holding a lot of Clinton supporters back is that for better or worse they believed the primary stance that Obama is all flash and no substance, he has to be the one that changes that not the Clintons. Hilary opened the door for him last night, Bill can't open it further (he can close it though), Obama just has to step through on Thursday.

Bill Clinton is against Barack Obama, possibly because he believes things are best the way they are, with no truly radical changes.

It could also be(not making any accusations, just a possibility) he is uncomfortable about a black man being the president.

But most likely he's sore about his wife losing and is having one big hissy fit because of it.

That's the prime reason. It was suggested on MSNBC last night that perhaps he wanted his wife to win the Presidency even more than maybe she did herself and is even more disappointed with the outcome than even she is.

We'll see what happens tonight.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Bill will be positive tonite.
He scares me.
The campaign charge (by innuendo) that Bill Clinton was a closet racist, severely injured his pride. IMO, it was completely out of bounds. I think it just took time for someone with his ego to get it behind him. He will be fine and I expect a stirring speech from him tonight that will complete the circle of party unity. ..|

Hillary said that she will be at the speech and truly thats all that matters. It was her campaign, not Bill's.

And not to get to psychobabbly, but I think Bill subconsciously sabotaged his wife's campaign with some of his antics. Who's knows, that is a tough nut to crack(the brain of someone who at one time was the leader of the free world, at the same time cheating on his wife/future presidential nominee). With that kind of disrespect for his wife(hence all women) maybe he deep down didn't want to see her become that strong of a woman to reach the pinnacle that he had. Maybe alot of the hatred he may be secretly(or not so secretly) having against Obama is actually hatred of himself for having cheated on Hillary and then having been a key component in her downfall. Its always easier to blame others instead of yourself.

I have to retract my last statement. President Bill Clinton cleared all my fears of how he had me scared.
I have to say that was a better speech than Hillary, by just a little bit. I must say that anyone that thinks the Democrats are going in the wrong direction, after that speech, wasn't listening.
Smelter, I do think you hit the nail on the head. I see complete unity there tonight.:=D:(!)
