Bill Maher fears Islam is taking over the west

Bill Maher doesn't like Republicans either. He thinks they're a bunch of buffoons. He's correct there.

In all seriousness, the possibility of Islamic culture taking over Western countries seems remote at this point, and racism is never warranted. But if Muslims ever did manage to delete the secular values that have made many good things (gay acceptance, for example) possible in the West, it would be bad, bad, bad. Not troubling but tolerable, not bad but we deserve it, bad.

I'm obviously more worried about the continued imperialism, wars, exploitation, torture, propping up friendly dictatorships with arms and money, and the deaths of thousands of innocent civilians, continued detaining with any charges of crimes in black holes, etc., by the "free world", and the fear of the loss of gay rights somewhere in the future is less urgent to me at this time. But I understand your sentiment. My belief is that we cannot support or stay indifferent to wholesale violation of human rights elsewhere by using human rights as an excuse and pretext.

I have also read Britain is considering deleting any reference to the Holocaust from its History books because Moslem students find it "offensive".
I find that offensive. Why should Moslem sensitivities over ride factual history?
Maher was right.

I find it offensive you make bullshit stories up.. Muslims didn't commit the Holocaust... the German Nazis did ... so why would it offend us... Anyways the only European country where the Jewish population increased during WW2 was Albania... because the Muslims there gave safe refuge to Jews from neighboring countries..

That's something you will never hear on fox news.

Maher is an interesting fellow

he got in huge trouble when he suggested that terrorists who flew planes into the world trade center were "not cowards" that they were in fact brave

that was in bad taste and he got thrown off of abc tv network

he speaks his mind

he gives pres. obama shit - and the dem party shit when he thinks they're not tough enough pushing a liberal agenda

he is socially liberal but not liberal on all issues - he's a bit of a law and order guy

his comment about "mohammed" has merit - the fact suggests that muslim population growth is ......... fast

i don't agree with bill on many things

but i like that he is consistently independent in his views

It's only okay when those of European heritage want to take over the countries of indigenous people's and implement their culture and values and rape them of their resources

I'm not the least bit afraid of Shariah law coming to the States and being thrust upon us all....I just don't see that being allowed to happen. Even if such a thing were to occur, I would think Muslims would be the only ones directly impacted, not to say it wouldn't have some impact on the other citizens here.

It's funny, no one EVER mentions the many cults throughout this country that enable polygamy and child-brides, or the Amish who also have their own laws and guidelines that are anti-woman, anti-gay, etc. in these arguments. It's pretty clear that those who suffer from Muslim anxiety are no different from those that when asked about immigration, immediately associate it with Mexicans and "the border". God forbid there be more brown people entering America! No one hardly ever mentions or associates immigration with the Irish, Russians, British, etc. because these arguments are based on racist ideas about who's entitled to being the majority in this country.

This country isn't owed to any of us...we're just occupying a space (taken over by Europeans) until we die. Between the Tea-people, lock-step rethuglicans and this general sense of fear of a changing American landscape...I think people just need to chill-the-fuck-out and focus on the real problem/enemy....Corporations who only want to give you the bare minimum so they can continue to feed off of you. That's who you really need to fear.

I don't like the idea of identifying ourselves by our political beliefs but I guess if I had to pick one, I'd consider myself a liberal. That said, Bill Maher is not the mouthpiece for the liberals by far. His statement was not very well thought out and makes him sound ignorant...but as a fan of his, I'm used to his occasional bouts with foot in mouth disease (he's quite misogynistic at times too). With Bill though, this statement had more to do with his Atheism than anything else. Still doesn't excuse his fear-mongering [-X

England's Muslim population is fairly small (I think about 3 million) and Mohammed is a popular boys name for Muslims.

It appears that the massive diversity which has happened to baby names of late has not yet caught on in with Muslims, so there may be more Mohammeds registered than other names. (How many Central/South American people name their sons Jesus?)

I would maybe have a small amount of concern if the top names were Osama or Saddam.

Please don't take stories from the Daily Mail as evidence. It's on a level with Fox news.

I like Bill Maher, but maybe he has caught a touch of stupid from fucking Ann Coulter. Shame.

I think Bill was rather presumptuous on this issue. He's the first to admit he isn't a journalist though. And anyone to ever listen to a word out of Bill Maher's mouth knows that he despises religion. All of them. It makes him cranky.
I don't think it's so much a fear of Islam "taking over the west" as it is countering another religious group having a substantial influence over the population, particularly the one many followers of which want to destroy the United States, along with another one that already is destroying the United States.

well Bill Maher is just ignorant... Mohammad is an honorific...many people are given first name Mohammad but they are called by a pet name (hamoudi for example) or middle name. so you can have Mohammad Kareem who goes by Kareem in everyday life.

can i call everyone Mohammad if one look like a Muslim ? :)

And what is the female equivalent ? not mary

How do you "look like a Muslim"? Please tell me that's sarcasm that didn't translate over the internet.

"Muhammed" was inflated in the tallies by politically driven patriots by combining every possible spelling and derivative of the name.

Does that only include different spellings (Muhammed, Muhammad, Mohammed, Mohammad, Mohamat, Mohamed and the like) or also derivatives like Mahomé, Mahoma and Mehmet, or even Mo, Moe, Eddie and Ed?

I remember an Italian neo-fascist ranting hilariously about muslim converts in Britain changing their names to Ali. It turned out the people he had met were a secular Anglican family where father and son were both called Alistair for crying out loud.

Anyways, I'm quite shocked to see Joshua at 5 and Daniel at 10, well ahead of any muslim names. Surely the real danger is in the West falling prey to the Jews?

Very true. In many European countries, people not only choose names from their own countries and languages, but also (and even mostly) foreign, exotic names.

All over Europe, you will now find French Michel, German Michael, English Mitchell or Mike, Spanish Miguel and Italian Michele. To give just one example. Just like French Claire became popular in England 150 years ago, while the French started naming babies Clara in Italian, today any European country, especially the Germanic ones, has names in English, German, Swedish, Danish, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, French, Catalan, Greek, along with Brazilian Moacyr, African Mwemwe, Indian Sunil, Hebrew Mordechai, Nepalese Tenzing, and Tibetan Kelzang.

Add to that the many names that aren't even proper names: I know toddlers called Navajo, Idaho, Maori and Sunshine. Or the names from obsolete nations: Charalambos (Byzantine), Yerai (Guanche, indigenous people from the Canaries), Wamba (Visigodos), Ambiorix (pre-Roman tribes).

Muslims don't follow these fashions and give only muslim names.

You're not making sense. If it was thrust upon us all then it would affect all of us.

The Amish haven't committed terrorist attacks whereas extremist Muslims have. Things like the McVey attacks were isolated incidents to my knowledge whereas extremist Muslims have bombed subways and blown up the Twin Towers. I do think this fear comes from a lack of understanding and the fact that some Muslims dress in a visibly different way and therefore are easier to identify as "other" even though this is unfair.

islam, christianity, etc. all toxic poison that needs to be irradicated for the benefit of the planet.
