Billboard magazine officially closes out 2007 with the November 24 issue. They will then begin tabulating the top hits from the past 12 months. Eagles' numbers won't be disclosed online until 100% of Soundscan's numbers are in. But until then, with 51.96%, here's the Top 50 of the last album chart of the year:

Surprising how many artists are going into freefall after their first week. I mean, yeah, it stands to reason that they sell less in week two, but come ON. Was it Thrice who dropped from 23 to 99 last week? And apparently the Backstreet Boys are plummeting like a stone this week.

Well, NomineDetracto, I am by no means a fan of Garth Brooks (who is actually a neighbor of mine) but I thought "The Ultimate Hits" actually stood a chance at a No. 1 bow since his "More Than A Memory" became the first single to debut at No. 1 on Billboard's Country Singles chart just two months ago.

And this is the man who had seven No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 in the 1990's alone -- that's more than Mariah Carey!

And as for The Backstreet Boys' huge plunge from No. 6 to No. 47, I definitely agree.

It seems those acts that flourised in 1999 (hi, Jennifer and Britney) have no reason to rejoice in '07.

I have Yahoo Unlimited. I listened to the Backstreet boys the whole CD and it didn't sound like it was gonna be a big hit for them. I like some of their songs in the past but this one just doesn't have even one songs that could make it into a decent single and it sounds like there's only one guy singing lead.
I think this probably gonna be their last CD together.

An 84% drop in sales in one week for an album with THAT much press can't be really excused.

I'm a bit confused as to why a Garth Brooks greatest hits (doesn't anyone who'd want that already have it?) would sell, but hey.. I guess country fans are dedicated or something.

I'm starting to feel like I'm defending Britney more than her fans do, but... those are preliminary numbers, with just over half of the numbers reported. Assuming she continues at that pace, she'll end up with 102,000 sold - which is a drop-off of 63%. Nothing to be proud of, but about par for the course of most pop albums this year.

Yay Carrie Underwood!! I can't say enough how much I'm in love with her & her music. She's incredible and I can't wait to see Carnival Ride blow up bigger than Some Hearts.

Yeah, he lives in Owasso (which is a suburb of Tulsa) with his lovely wife, Trisha Yearwood. I'm a much bigger fan of hers than I am of his. In fact, I don't think I'm a fan of his at all.

But her, I'm totally nuts about. I ran into them about four or five years ago at an Old Navy. He's an extremely good-looking man in person.
