Cuban Buttercup.jpg

This rain- and wind-battered Cuban buttercup greeted me yesterday morning.

I'm fine, though I wasn't really in the hurricane danger zone. I had a 10 ft. cashew tree topple over, though. I think that I can pull it back up and secure it with ropes to save it.

I was worried about my ex and his husband in Tampa, but it looks like that area escaped the worst of it. The Tampa Bay Area seems to be lucky when it comes to hurricanes.

But I really am concerned about my cousin and her husband, who just moved to Port Charlotte from a place that doesn't have hurricanes. They're on a canal which connects to Charlotte Harbor, where they expected a storm surge. I talked to another cousin who said they decided to stay put, and according to my other cousin, they had an unrealistic picture of the danger. They weren't worrying about the storm surge and the wind, but about looters (I think they're in a good neighborhood). I mean, what are the looters going to do, take your flat-screen TV, which is under 10 feet of water? Seriously, I hope to hear from them soon, to make sure they're all right.

This is when we watch the train wreck.

I'm sorry, especially for lives lost. And those who lost property and memories.

Even though I hated Naples. (But I LOVE Fort Myers, and am sad they took such a storm.)

We did really well in Vero Beach. The storm seems to have passed around us. We have wind damage and some tree debris scattered around the neighborhood but nothing like what those folks on the west coast got.

and, then there is the owner of this brand new McLaren P1, worth over $1 million, that washed out of his garage (*@*)

Anyone rich enough to afford a car like that can presumably afford suitable insurance. Anyone crazy enough to spend over $1 million on a car may, I suppose, be crazy enough not to insure it.

The scenes are horrendous. Concerned for all. Are you all okay? Hi Billy T: are you safe?

So good to hear from you, John. So glad you escaped with only a downed tree. (*8*)

We are OK here. We are located just north of Orlando. We had a few branches knocked off a couple of trees and our lake overflowed on the far side causing a road to be flooded. In our area we received 20 inches of rain and the power stayed on during the event. Surrounding neighborhoods there are alot of homes without power.

Hope everyone is safe and well, of course.

Love you all.

Tie yourselves to something but above the flood line fo heaven's sake.

Good to hear Billy and FP :)

Lovely flower Araucaria. First Cuban buttercup Ive seen. Hope everything turns out ok for family and
friends.

^Everybody's fine. My ex got a portable generator loaned to him in Tampa. Good thing, too. He was bitching about not being able to make coffee and having to eat cold soup.

My cousin in Port Charlotte and her husband are OK, though they got a big scare. The hurricane revealed serious structural issues with their house, and their pool screen was destroyed. It will probably cost them thousands of dollars to fix all that.

Thanks for your Tots and Pears. Got my electric on yesterday. I know some will be weeks. Everything is flooded here, Rivers aren't expected to crest until Mon. or Tues. We had some trim blow off, but that's about it. One neighbor wasn't so lucky. A huge oak tree smashed their home and car,
