I read the book Paul: The mind of the Apostle by A. N. Wilson, a British historian. He writes about the impact of Judaism and Christianity on sexual mores. It was the Judeo-Christian beliefs that started the homosexual taboo. Prior to that, and for many years after, there was no concept of homo, hetero or bi-sexuality. It was just a given that people would have sex with people of both genders. Indeed, in the book, Wilson writes about a Roman emperor, who's name I now forget, who was considered queer because he would only have sex with women.
