"Bitch" isn't an acceptable term of criticism. Nashville Tennessee dumps Kid Rock over slur against Joy Behar.

As has been debated on this very forum, "bitch" is not a universally accepted slang term with no social cost.

To be sure, you use whatever language you feel you must to express yourself, but in a nation that vaunts freedom of speech, be aware that the utterance of some words still has a price to pay by the utterer.

In an age in which coarse language by shock jocks has proliferated, it hasn't spelled the end of civility everywhere.

Nashville, Tennessee is more Democrat than the surrounding state, but it is still Deep South.

Kid Rock popped off in an interview on Fox News and threw in a stinger at the end, calling Joy Behar from The View a bitch. Although he later apologized for the language, he didn't rescind the thought. Nashville was listening and heard him loud and clear.

He was formerly due the honor of serving as the Grand Marshall of their upcoming Christmas Parade. However, the backlash was immediate, and even the mayor refused to attend if Kid Rock presided. The honor was retracted and the man who wrestled the rifle from the gunman at the Waffle House back in April was given the honor instead, James Shaw, Jr. He is appropriately a local hero.

Say what you want, but Nashville made a stance for respect. They called a cad a cad and dumped him. It is not an acceptable remark and he paid for it, and it a city that voted for Clinton.

Kudos, Nashville.

Who thought he would be a good choice in the first place?

Sounds like a storm in a tea cup.

Btw, who are Kid Rock and Joy Behar when they're at home?

It is indeed a storm in a teacup, but this is a gay website, so we're obligated to be spilling the tea.

Kid Rock is a musician who has recorded rap, rock, and country, so he isn't any particular thing, just another rockabilly personality. He was striking out at political correctness, which probably means he is a Trump supporter if he lashed out at Joy Behar.

Joy Behar is a former talk show host and a celebrated member of the panel on The View, a woman's talk show that is strongly feminist and has Whoopi Goldberg, and formerly had Barbara Walters, as well as some lesser known panelists. Joy is one of the strongest voices on the show and is loudly Jewish and even more loudly critical of Trump. That is saying something, as Goldberg usually has the lead in that.

So, dissing Behar was just a gratuitious swipe at feminism, and perhaps Jewish leftist politics.

Is she a bitch ?

I saw The View a few times in the past. It's a lot less intellectual than shows like To The Contrary, but it is on regular network television so has to reach a broader audience than the PBS shows.

Joy is pointed in her criticisms of Trump and the GOP. She emotes the sort of classical Jewish persona that has become familiar to those who watch American media that is heavily New York-centric when it comes to depicting Jewish political and intellectual views.

That doesn't equate to "bitch" to me. I took the slur to be an inarticulate way for a redneckish conservative (from Ohio) to try to get a lick in on a prominent pop culture liberal.

Don't give him to us. He's from Detroit. [-X

^ Cheers Jay, i've had to venerable members tell me she is indeed one.

You're right. I misread Wiki, and it listed Ft. Laramie as an "event" but then put below that his birthplace in Romeo, Michigan.

I guess I was just remembering he is no Southerner, so may have misread his purchase to take such liberties.

I like Joy's persona, btw, even if it is sort of urban edgy. She's a fighter, and I liked that when wanting a voice to speak out against the current horrors in Washington.

That said, Stephen Colbert is my spirit animal.

I love Joy. I remember her doing stand-up comedy when Comedy Central actually showed comedians.

A friend has posted to me that she is Jewish. Maybe I have heard her detractors attribute her as such, or maybe just tuned in when she was using a Yiddish phrase. I thought I remembered her making a reference to something that was culturally Jewish, but maybe not. I am working when the show is aired, so I rarely see it.

At any rate, she is apparently Italian and not ethnically or religiously Jewish. My bad.

Thanks for clearing that up. Now I can sleep soundly in my bed. ;)

^ And Kid Rock is an asshole.........kind of evens out things.

The fact that "bitch" exists and is popularized today is the evidence that sexism is acceptable by too many Americans. There isn't an equivalent sexist epithet for a man who is a tough critic or harsh debater.

The fact that there isn't is proof that the gender of the woman is part of the issue, not her views. She's a difficult woman, not a difficult host or commentator or critic. It's a slam on women.

That hip hop and rappers get away with it and racial slurs is one thing, but they get a pass because they have been oppressed and can't therefore be guilty of sexist abuse, only victims. But the rest of the country should stop.

Yeah, she is still a bitch. Her type do more to deconstruct equality than build it up. But that's what North America is all about now.

Resorting to name calling is the signal that the arrows she has shot into the conservative ranks have hit their marks. When the "debate" degrades to simply calling her a bitch, it validates that the men can't stand on their feet and answer the actual debated points. The bankrupt opposition must descend into slurs instead of merit.

Hmmm, one of the reasons why I love Kid Rock is because he isn't politically correct and unfiltered.

That said, yes the other guy deserves that award more than Kid Rock but the fact that it took a social justice twitter war to get to that point speaks ill of that magazine, not Kid Rock.

Also the fact that they replaced Kid Rock with someone who did something so honorable and is a person of color just screams an attempt to paint a white person as evil, a woman as a victem, and a black person as a hero. It all seems way convenient and calculated.
