There are some retail stores in my area that are opening at 12:00 a.m. on 11/25. What would it take to motivate you to go shopping at some outrageous hour (before 8 a.m.) this coming Friday?

I'd have to be off on that day, I'd have to have friends to go with that I could have fun shopping with, and I'd have to have a couple of things that I want.

I actually have only ONE thing I want - a new coat that's in my cost range.

Some of the stores here the sales start at 10pm thanksgiving night (I think i even heard one is opening at 9pm) ... then there's the 24-hour stores that will be open all day thanksgiving & you can line up _inside_ for the black-friday deals

There is nothing I would need to wait thru all that crap, camp out and shit like that.

I went by our Best Buy here, today Monday--yes monday and there were people with tents up and some arriving to set up tents. And friday aint here yet. that is just plain crazy..

there's nothing outthere that i would go out my way to buy.

Are the savings really that big that makes it worthwhile to not either wait or just get it online?

Needless to say, we have no such thing here in .za

And yes, Dale, the big stores offer such dramatic discounts for the earliest comers on a few big ticket items, probably as loss leaders. For some, it is worth it, but I don't like Christmas to be about getting the big one. Those presents can be given at another time.

Curious. How many of those big ticket items are actually bought as gifts? It would seem to me that they're being bought for personal use. Still, it gets them in the store when they wouldn't normally be in there buying things, I suppose.

It's just sad that every single holiday or celebration, not matter how solemn, is commercialised. I mean, how is buying a big screen television or a new car on sale remembering veterans? And why does a President's Day sale last for 2 weeks?

Actually, I have to give the stores credit this year for their midnight openings. I am a night owl, so while I'd never get up at 3 a.m. for a 4 a.m. store opening, I would definitely just stay up and head to a store at 11:30 p.m.

HOWEVER, as a former retail worker myself, this has just gotten out of hand. Thanksgiving is supposed to be about spending time with family and friends, and midnight store openings prevent sales associates from doing that. Which is why I am boycotting all stores this Black Friday and encourage others to do the same. If there are no shoppers, the stores won't open like this next year. Besides, I would bet dollars to donuts that you wind up seeing most of the same deals later in the season as desperate retailers start slashing prices the closer we get to Christmas.

Not happening, If I need it I already have it. If I don't have it I don't need it. And if I don't have it and the need arises I have people to go instead of me.

It may just be where I live. But, I've found my local stores still have a good stock of most of those black friday specials long after black friday. So, I might go out friday afternoon.

Go Go dancers.

Well, I bought a really nice jacked that would've been $100 or so for $20. I'd take it for $20 :p

I worked Walmart 2 years ago, and this season was hell. This year I'll attempt to go. If not, then I'll ask my cousin if she can get her hands on something.

I went to Walmart at midnight last year and I plan on going again this year. My mom needs a new laptop and they have one for $198. I have almost zero chance of actually getting one, but hey, it's an experience. Plus, a lot of restaurants are open all night for black Friday shoppers, so at least I can get breakfast afterward.

Going to the store at midnight would be no big deal as I'm typically up to around 11pm anyway...and i'd much rather stay up late than get up early LOL I do plan to be out there on black friday as always

Don't know how many of you know this, but there's a site where you can see some of the stores ads (sometimes even a few weeks before they come out) its: www.bfads.net

I'd much rather pay a bit extra than deal with the masses of people that flood stores that weekend.

It gets crazy stupid :help:

This!

A gun to my head... and that might not even do it.

And this (or, better yet, shop a locally owned store and keep money in your local area).
Internet black friday specials: Add to cart. Check out.

End of story lol. Takes about two minutes and you don't get trampled to death in order to get a 50" third party garbage LCD.

And I love Newegg's explanation of "mall madness" jajaj... geeky...

Just wait until y'all see the Justin Bieber BF ad.

(For the record, I now get off 11PM on Wednesday night and must return to the Emporium no later than 10:45PM Thursday night. Somewhere in that 23.75 hours I must find time to go to my BFF's house and eat Thanksgiving Dinner, find time to sleep enough to remain awake until 11:00 AM on Friday Morning and then drive 15 miles to get home and actually go to bed.)
