Black Swan

The acting was very good. Some of those touches were really over the top camp. It made me think of Mommie Dearest.

I nearly roared with laughter when the one ballerina was dragging the body of the other in the dressing room.

And these straight men in the ballet with a sweater tied around their necks. As if!

Yeah, she is a bit of a dork, but she is a very good actress as well.

Well it is a movie about the stage. So it makes sense there would be some over the top stuff. And yes the body dragging scene was hysterical! :D My theater cracked up too!

^^ I can understand not liking it. It is pretty strange. Was that what turned you off from it.

And Natalie Portman is very pretty.

I LOVED it, right after I saw it. I LIKED it the next day, when I had time to dwell on it a bit. Some of the "subtle" hints, weren't so subtle. It was obvious that she was at war with herself, not those around her. Whenever she was confronted with "her other self" that self was wearing dark grey, or black, while she herself was dressed in white, or lighter colors.

^^ Subtlety is not Darren Aronofsky's
forte. And nor just from those little "clues" (like the clothing differences) there are other little hints that a good chunk of the plot was in her head.

The way I look at this film is a tour de force performance from Natalie Portman. And much like There Will Be Blood, another pretentious film, that has an outstanding performance from Daniel Day Lewis.

It may have already been posted, but I must say, this is a beautiful movie: the fragileness, the betrayal, the insanity, the sacrifice. This movie was brilliant! The last time I wept was when 'The Lion King' was in theaters. I highly recommend this movie.

Well I was too lazy to look so I created another thread on Black Swan. I live in the middle of nowhere and I did not get the chance to see this movie in theaters. Luckily when I was at the laundry mat yesterday, a lady was selling pirated DVD's and she had this movie. I immediately forked over my money and bought it. I just finished watching it over half an hour ago and wow. I'm just somehow. The emotions I felt watching this was amazing. I felt somehow vicariously living through this girl. The onstage performance (last half hour) is what got me most: the fragileness, the betrayal, the insanity, the sacrifice. She died fulfilling her dreams and passions. Many can think that is idiotic and selfish, but I thought it was brilliant and beautiful. Bravo...bravo...

A powerhouse performance from Ms Portman and deserving of the awards that will no doubt come her way.

As for the movie, I thought it was pretty intense and disturbing in places; not an 'enjoyable' experience but definitely worth seeing.

she's guaranteed the Oscar. Only Annette Bening could upset that.

Still havent seen this movie. Everyone seems to love it. Maybe when it comes to dvd I will see it. Just been to lazy to see it, lol.

I loved it. Tour de force, Portman and Kunis were sensational. Let's not forget Winona Ryder - never pictured her playing a washed up crazy alcoholic!

I also thought the club scene was amazing when Nina and Lily are rolling.

Check out these "interactive" midnight screenings of BLACK SWAN in NYC, L.A., SF and Chicago and get tix at the link below. This seems like it will easily be a (fittingly) batshit-crazy night out.
