Blackmail Email

Often when I visit one of the free porn sites that appear when I Google "gay porn video muscular athletic anal" or something similar, a window with an official-looking Microsoft Windows logo appears stating that my computer has been infected with a virus that is sending important personal information here and there, and that I need to contact Windows immediately. I always then just turn off my computer and restart. Only ever happens with porn.

Usually you don't have to restart the computer to get rid of those fake Windows warnings. If it pops up full-screen, and seems to take control of your browser, you can often press the 'escape' key (to get back to your tabs), then press control+W to close the tab. That seems to work most of the time.

There is a sucker born every minute.

But I haven't seen this scam yet, so my ISP must be getting better at screening for this garbage.

It is one of the reasons though that I would never, ever give my email to most internet sites.

I have a special email I only use for porn etc sites

No, I haven't received anything like this, thank goodness. The camera on my computer is blocked so I don't think that they would have my picture. I can't imagine paying $7,000. I would consider going to the police, but I know that my suburban police aren't prepared to handle this sort of thing. Thank goodness that some other people have replied with better information than I have.

Thanks for the suggestion!

I've gotten multiple scam emails similar to the following:
Dear user of <server>.com!

I am a spyware software developer.
Your account has been hacked by me in the summer of 2018.

I understand that it is hard to believe, but here is my evidence:
- I sent you this email from your account.
- Password from account <my email>@<server>.com: <supposed password> (on moment of hack).

The hacking was carried out using a hardware vulnerability through which you went online (Cisco router, vulnerability CVE-2018-0296).

I went around the security system in the router, installed an exploit there.
When you went online, my exploit downloaded my malicious code (rootkit) to your device.
This is driver software, I constantly updated it, so your antivirus is silent all time.

Since then I have been following you (I can connect to your device via the VNC protocol).
That is, I can see absolutely everything that you do, view and download your files and any data to yourself.
I also have access to the camera on your device, and I periodically take photos and videos with you.

At the moment, I have harvested a solid dirt... on you...
I saved all your email and chats from your messangers. I also saved the entire history of the sites you visit.

I note that it is useless to change the passwords. My malware update passwords from your accounts every times.

I know what you like hard funs (adult sites).
Oh, yes .. I'm know your secret life, which you are hiding from everyone.
Oh my God, what are your like... I saw THIS ... Oh, you dirty naughty person ... :)

I took photos and videos of your most passionate funs with adult content, and synchronized them in real time with the image of your camera.
Believe it turned out very high quality!

So, to the business!
I'm sure you don't want to show these files and visiting history to all your contacts.

Transfer $889 to my Bitcoin cryptocurrency wallet: 1Bt4psBJmjfVTcW6eYiJZ6HEbpFgKkBSX4
Just copy and paste the wallet number when transferring.
If you do not know how to do this - ask Google.

My system automatically recognizes the translation.
As soon as the specified amount is received, all your data will be destroyed from my server, and the rootkit will be automatically removed from your system.
Do not worry, I really will delete everything, since I am “working” with many people who have fallen into your position.
You will only have to inform your provider about the vulnerabilities in the router so that other hackers will not use it.

Since opening this letter you have 48 hours.
If funds not will be received, after the specified time has elapsed, the disk of your device will be formatted,
and from my server will automatically send email and sms to all your contacts with compromising material.

I advise you to remain prudent and not engage in nonsense (all files on my server).

Good luck!
First obvious thing to me on this being fake...the email address of mine that was (supposedly) sent from is a forward-only address (receiving only)! You can't log in or send from it.
Second obvious thing...I don't even have a camera that they could have synchronized with.
Third thing...nor do I have 'chats from messengers'
(I do happen to have a Cisco router, but it isn't even internet connected(so even if someone were to sit right up by the house and hack it (assuming it was the right time of year for it to be on), they couldn't go anywhere or see anything(most they could do is turn on/off lights or change the playlist for them))

LOL but I had a good laugh over the multiple obviously fake/spam emails like this one
I could see someone falling for the scam though if they weren't savvy on theye types of things...

Lol if someone tries to blackmail me with the porn and fetish videos I watch, my four friends know very well about the stuff I'm into.

Dear HoodedRat,

I know all about your little tryst behind the webcam with partyboy X. Now your future with the Conservative Party seems precarious.
Please leave a suitcase in the kitchen with 20.000 pounds in unmarked mice.

Love,

your cat.

At the moment, I have harvested a solid dirt... on you...

Well. it would be pretty big harvest, I must say.
