Re: "Atomic" Blondie

I love Blondie, but I've never liked "Atomic" at all. I do love the "groove" of the song. But the opening sounds tentative. The lyrics sound like placeholders, like they jotted down some dummy lyrics and didn't get around to writing better ones. And the song overstays its welcome - I'm always tired of it by time she gets to the ending "oo, oo, atomic" repeats.

I'm apparently alone in this assessment, though. :)

So tell us, how do you really feel?

Re: "Atomic" Blondie

For years I didn't know what the 442 stood for. It's not an area code here. I thought it might be UAW Chapter 442.

Then I saw a show on television where they were putting a 442 engine in a car. When they said "442" my brain connected it to the song immediately. There was also a muscle car named the Oldsmobile 442.

Re: "Atomic" Blondie

Ahhh - the glorious Debbie Harry. She may have looked like a 21 Y/O sex kitten in the 'Atomic' video - but she was already 35 at at that stage. I always thought she had one of the most fascinating faces in rock and an incredible stage prescence. Strangely enough, Blondie also hit the big time in Australia pretty much before they made it anywhere else in the world.

Unbelievable - she turns 64 this year, still doesn't look it (tho' I'm sure she must have had 'some work' done...but, who cares? Loved their music then - still love it now. I can remember Parallel Lines (1978 ) like it was yesterday.

Oh - and how many people realise that the 1981 song 'Rapture' is generally credited as the first ever rap song to make #1 on the US charts?

Blondie to Release First Album Since 2003

Iconic new-wavers Blondie will release "Panic of Girls," their first album since 2003's "The Curse of Blondie," with a UK release scheduled for June 1. Founding members Debbie Harry, Chris Stein, and Clem Burke and new members Tommy Kessler and Matt Katz-Bohen will appear on the record, in addition to Beirut's Zach Condon on a cover of the Beirut track "Sunday Smile."

She sounded fine on the live Isle of Wight clips. I don't like what the producers did to her voice on this clip. Still, I don't like any of the voices on the radio nowadays and I'm sure it has a lot to do with what happens in the studio. Maybe younger people who are used to that will like it.

the world didn't end today but we still have rapture.:p

Blondie on Beyonce, Longevity & New Album 'Girls Of Panic'

Groundbreaking New York band Blondie has been pushing genre boundaries for nearly 40 years. Led by iconic frontwoman Debbie Harry, Blondie was a pioneering force in the new wave and punk scenes of the late '70s and early '80s, quick to experiment with sounds from reggae and rap. The band has been awarded for its adventurousness with international acclaim, four chart-topping Billboard Hot 100 singles, more than 40 million albums sold (according to Nielsen SoundScan) and a 2006 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

After some delay, the band released its ninth studio album, "Panic of Girls," in the U.K. this past spring. The release arrives in stateside Sept. 13, both physically and digitally, on Noble ID, the band's own imprint, with distribution by EMI. Harry, now 66 and going by Deborah, spoke to Billboard about the new album, the industry and staying ahead of the curve.

I like the new song. Good to see Debbie, Chris, and Clem still together. Love Debbie's "Dolly" hairstyle. :gogirl:

New wave/post-punk pioneers Blondie recently released Panic of Girls in the UK, their third album since reuniting in 1997, and ninth overall. The album includes the single "Mother," which they recently performed live and acoustic from Abbey Road. Check that video out, which includes an interview below. The music video, which B-52 Kate Pierson makes a cameo in, for the track is below too.

Panic of Girls now has a US release date of September 13 via the band's own imprint. They will head out on a North American tour in September and October in support of the album's stateside release. The tour hits NYC on September 12 and 13 at Highline Ballroom.

Blondie - "Mother" Live Acoustic From Abbey Road + Interview

Blondie - "A Rose By Any Name" featuring Beth Ditto

Oooh, I encountered her once. And she talked to me!

So I'm walking this down long hallway when suddenly this rambling blond chick walks out one of the random doors along this hallway. She's gibbering on and on and on until she finally turns around, takes one good look at me, and blurts out, "Oh, I thought you were someone else."

I gave her the finger when she wasn't looking.

And that's my Blondie story.

She is sooo petite!

Love the new song with Beth. Will be seeing Blondie and X (another one of my favorite bands) in September!
