Blood in the urine from masturbating?

A couple of months ago I started to see blood in the urine and went to the doctor. It turned out at that time that I was suffering from a UTI and a couple of rounds of antibiotics seemed to do the trick. I also had a cystoscopy (negative) and ultrasound (negative). However, a few weeks ago, I noticed blood in my urine on two more occasions, this time without any sign of bacterial infection.

Everything seems okay, except I have a slight stinging feeling that comes and goes in my bladder, and it can be a little painful having an orgasm. I notice the pain mostly in the anal area (prostate?), and in the urethra up to the tip of my penis. I used to masturbate daily (sometimes twice a day) and was wondering if I somehow have damaged something with that frequency? I am now 38, but still don't think that I should be experiencing sucuh overnight changes. I drink enough water and cranberry juice regularly, and try to pee immediately after climaxing - just in case it still IS an infection of some sort.

Could it possibly be muscle-related? The pain doesn't seem to fit that description either...

Has anyone else suffered from this or does anyone know of anything I should enquire about on my next doctor's visit? The doctor's don't really seem to be able to find anything wrong...

If anyone has any comments or advice - everything is greatly appreciated...! :-)

I would dismiss masturbating frequency as a concern. Twice a day isn't any kind of frequency you should worry about.

I would think more in terms of maybe small kidney stones or prostatitis, but would get it checked out with the urologist in case he missed something more serious the first time he looked.

Have you had any bad UTIs in the past that might have left some internal scars?

Have you noticed any other changes? Do you pee more frequently or wake up more often at night. Any change in the force of the stream? More frequent/intense night time erections?

Just adding to 3nipples comments...

We get questions about frequency of masturbation and whether it is unhealthy.

Regular, consistent sexual activity is healthy. You're more likely to have prostate problems- long term and short term- by having inconsistent sexual activity- that is, going with out for long periods and then going back to frequent sexual activity. Masturbation daily on a consistent schedule is actually good for your reproductive system.

And I second the recommendation that you return to see your doctor.

Thanks so much for the reply! I do have an appointment with a urologist in about a month's time, but I've been trying to understand it all a little better so that I know what to discuss with him... :-)

I had a persistent UTI last October/November that took several rounds of antibiotics before it went away. Since then I have a feeling that the bladder fills quicker (although I do drink 2 quarts of water a day) and can experience sudden stinging or stabbing bladder pain that goes away right away. I do feel the desire to pee more frequently though, so yes on that.

My initial thought is something to do with the prostate, but that was examined during my cystoscopy and nothing was found. Also, the discomfort seems more related to the bladder area, though it sometimes goes around the back like a wading ring. I sit most of the day at work and sit a lot at home as well, so maybe the prostate is the culprit nevertheless?

Thanks so much for the feedback, though - helps to put the mind at ease a little... (*8*)

Look into prostatitis. Chronic prostatitis can have longterm negative consequences. I know the pain you described. Finally, when I went to the doctor, I had progressed to the point that occasionally it felt like I was being hit by lightning in the perianal area. Sometimes it takes a long course of antibiotics to calm things down. My doctor finally put me on a older drug because it had been off the drug of choice list long enough where my particular bacteria was not resistant to it like some of the newer ones.

See a doctor!

The male reproductive system is the best argument ever against "intelligent design". It is really badly designed. What intelligent being would ever put the prostate around the exit to the bladder and then make it grow and swell as a man gets older?

There are lots of nooks and crannies in the male genitourinary system where infection can linger and thrive. And it can take more than one course of antibiotics to wipe it out.

Given your symptoms, it's surprising that your cystoscopy was unremarkable. It sounds like you may have a structural issue.

Hopefully your urologist will take another look or will refer you to a teaching hospital for a second opinion.

Hi guys - just on the off chance that anyone was remotely interested in the follow-up here... :)

I went to see my urologist and found out that it all was due to a kidney stone that had lodged itself at the very bottom of the ureter, right where it empties into the bladder. Two weeks ago I went in and had it removed, and now I feel 100% better, even if there still is a little irritation in my bladder and urethra from the actual surgery.

Just wanted to thank everyone for their feedback and advice! :D

Glad that you have an answer and that it was smoething that easily resolved. Thanks for the update.
