yesterday I went to the restroom and noticed blood in my urine. This totally freaked me out. I have not had sex (any type )in the last 3 years. So, I drove to the ER and signed in. The doc probed every orifice i have. And just gave me some IV and Leviquin and sent me home on my merry way. Today the blood seems to be gone. I never felt any pain nor had a fever. Any advice?

You already did exactly what I would have advised you to do. No sex in 3 years though? Maybe that's the problem ;)

WELL YES SEX BUT ONLY WITH ONE PARTER. I havent been a slut in 3 years, and my partner and I are testd every year. and do not cheat on eachother. i dont let him out of my sight. :-)

a bladder infection could do it... or torn tissue in the bladder... or even a scratch in the urethra... or it could be a genetic disorder

the males in my family have traces of blood in our urine.. its not normally visable but it sometimes can be with a bladder infection

Yeah, my mom and I both, but ours is usually detected in tests, not seen, which seems to be the case with him.

I guess if you've already seen a doctor and it's gone away then there isn't much to be worried about. It was probably just something minor that happens once in a while.

I got this from emedicinehealth.com:

"Causes of Blood in Urine

Hematuria has many different causes.

  • Blood in the urine can come from any condition that results in infection, inflammation, or injury to the urinary system.
  • Typically, microscopic hematuria indicates damage to the upper urinary tract (kidneys), while visible blood indicates damage to the lower tract (ureters, bladder, or urethra). But this is not always the case.
  • The most common causes in people younger than 40 years are "stones" in the kidneys or ureters and urinary tract infections.
  • These may cause hematuria in older people, but cancers of the kidney, bladder, and prostate become a more common concern with people older than 40 years.
  • Several conditions causing hematuria may exist at the same time.
  • Some causes of hematuria are serious, others are not. Your health care provider will do tests to help tell the difference.
The well-known causes of blood in the urine include the following:

  • Kidney stones
  • Infections - Of the urinary tract or genitals, especially in women
  • Blockage of the urinary tract, usually the urethra - By a stone, a tumor, a narrowing of the opening (stricture), or a compression from surrounding structures
  • Cancer of the kidney, bladder, or prostate
  • Kidney disease
  • Blood clotting disorders
  • Injury to the upper or lower urinary tract, as in a car wreck or a bad fall
  • Medications - Antibiotics (for example, rifampin), analgesics such as aspirin, anticoagulants (blood thinners such as warfarin), phenytoin, quinine
  • Benign (noncancerous) enlargement of the prostate - Known as benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH), a common condition in older men
  • Chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and sickle cell anemia
  • Viral infections
  • Inflammation of the kidney - Usually of unknown cause
  • Strenuous exercise, especially running - Results from repeated jarring of the bladder
Sometimes no cause is found for blood in the urine.

  • If serious conditions such as cancer, kidney disease, and other chronic diseases that cause kidney damage or bleeding are ruled out, the cause is almost certainly not serious.
  • The hematuria will probably go away by itself or continue as a chronic condition without doing harm.
Urine can be colored pink, red, or brown for reasons that have nothing to do with bleeding in the urinary tract.

  • Foods - Beets, berries, rhubarb in large amounts
  • Food coloring
  • Medications - Certain laxatives and pain medications
  • Menstrual blood
  • Liver diseases - Also can be very serious"
I doubt you have to worry about any of the 'serious' issues. But I just posted this so you could see what different normal reasons there are.

LOl i wonder if girls go through the same thing when they first get their period.
Seriously though, visible blood in your urine does seem pretty strange (specially with no pain). But i guess if your doctor didn't fuss about it it's nothing serious. You should probably go see your GP for a second opinion, just in case.

I remember once i got a smack in the kidney and when i went to take a leak a few hours later there was blood in it, stung like shit and i honestly nearly screamed. But im terrified of doctors so i never went and after a couple of days it calmed down and ive been fine since...not sure how this is relevant to the topic but you've got me remembering now...

I had kidney problems when I was younger which was due to appendicitis. Not to scare you but if you feel pain or any recurring issues I would visit doctor

I wonder if aspirin could have caused the blood in my urine? I have been taking one aspirin per day to thin my blood. Maybe it was too thin? I'll have to tell the doctor about this.

^I think you need to stop worrying Big Chicken!

1 aspirin/day is not enough to cause the symptoms which you kind of referring to. Could you imagine the amount of people in hospitals if aspirin did that? Many people take the aspirin daily for heart health.

What you are referring to is when someone overdoses on aspirin (ie several times over the recommended daily amount like >10grams/day) and their liver suffers damage causing increased prothrombin time (a measure of clotting factor) which would lead to easy bruising, bleeding gums, gastrointestinal bleeding, etc. I highly doubt you have any of these symptoms...Plus, you would probably already be in the hospital for things like edema, abdominal pain, nausea, seizure, etc.

Try to relax and tell us what the Dr. says when you find out. :)
