Hello, I have a question about Blu-Ray, I saw few at Walmart, but i am not sure which one to get.. So if anyone have bluray please let me know how you like yours and what types you have. i saw a few, some have like facebook( a plus) hulu, netflix, and even its own web browser. Please help me to choose which to get? thanks in advance...

Hmmm, I only have a PS3 which has Blu-ray I can't remember the one my brother got from Rent-A-Center. I believe it had Facebook, Twitter and Pandora but I am sure you can download more apps onto it with a firmware update. I like to say it might of been a Sony Blu-ray player.

I've always heard bad things about some Blu-ray player which will play Blu-rays but when it came to updates you had to buy some sort of extra hardware for it to connect to a wireless receiver. Best to do research at Amazon.com and read reviews, find the cheapest one if you're on a budget.

Much like the above I only have a PS3 one. But I would recommend one that is able to update its firmware.

I have a Sony blu-ray player and couldn't be happier with it.......I've had it since black friday of 2010 and haven't had a single problem with it at all. Yes, you will need a separate adapter to connect to a wireless receiver/router if you go with a cheaper one......but usually for around $30-40 more you can get one with it built in where the separate pieces can cost up to $100. Or......like me.....buy a really long ethernet cable and plug directly into the router haha....works so much better! This is the one I have:
Amazon.com: Sony BDP-S370 Blu-ray Disc Player: Electronics
Hope this helps!

I have several Bluray players. They all do pretty much the same thing, disc-play ways. If you just want to play discs, buy a cheaper generic brand.

As others have mentioned, the big differentiation these days is all internet related. Sony offers lots of really good free content on their online channels, which is a great reason to buy from them. Samsung's online content is getting better rapidly, but I find Samsung's menus/remote controls to be poorly designed. Panasonic's online content is woeful, but some of their players accept webcam input, if you want to be able to Skype from the lounge room. Non-big-brand players will probably not offer much online content, other than the standard Youtube etc.

Personally, if I was buying a new deck today I'd buy a cheap Sony.

I have a PS3 and a Sony BluRay - both work great.

I have had problems with some home burned DVD's not reading in the bluray player so I still keep a DVD hooked up as well.

One thing to look at is if you want to stream video make sure the player supports the service you want. Some of them do not support Amazon video or Hulu so make sure it has what you want before you buy it.

You can find them at Costco for around $100 these days -

I love mine but remember if you don't have a high def TV you will not see any difference.

Not cheap, but the best. I have one and it is wonderful.

Dude! I'm happy to see the Oppo get mention in this thread. These things are fierce and "play any disc thrown at them". I'm looking to buy either your BDP-93 (well, not your one, but you know what I mean ;) ) or the BDP-95 by the summer. Main reason is I'm kind of an audio buff and have a small amount of SACD's and DVD-A's that I've never actually been able to play - looking forward to enjoying those.

But to the OP's question, the PS3 recommendations here are good in that a few of my friends handle Blu-Ray via the PS3 and say they're thrilled with it - plus the PS3 offers other advantages like movie streaming, ability to store content on its hard drive, and obviously the gaming (even if you don't do it now, you might want to pick up a few gaming titles); it serves as a nice "media hub" in a way.

PS3 is good, but it is out of my price range plus it does not have any games that i will like to play.. i saw few yesterday, and i saw one that actually have facebook, can stream tv, movies, also have netfllix
