Blu-Ray wins the format war

Yeah thanks to Blu-Ray and there polymer hard coating they also cost more money to make then an HD DVD disc. Also new assembly lines have to be made for Blu-Ray discs where HD DVD's can be made on the same assembly lines as Standard DVD's.

LOL, Sony LOL ooooh no....they said there going to stop making DVD players to enforce Blu-Ray LOL!! Well I guess Sony just signed there own death warrant right there. The HD market is still a niche market. Sure people are watching Blu-Ray movies on there playstation 3's that are still hooked up to a standard tv!! So Sony has the balls to say...YUP You...Joe Average....were shutting down the dvd market and telling all other movie studios at the same time...including the little guys like Rogue and a few others that they can't make DVD's anymore. You gotta make Blu-Ray's from now on or your just not going to make movies at all!

People say Microsoft is an evil monster!!

Also most studios sided with Blu-Ray because the format has high security....security that is so air tight that some movies are not working in some players without a patch upgrade. Now you tell joe average that he has to hook his player up to the internet or what 6 months to get a patch from Sony so that he can watch his latest Blu-Ray disc! Oh, and also believe in your god Sony when he says that Blu-Ray code can't be cracked by pirates or hackers!! LOL Give it time.

Hey did you want that HD disk of Hot Fuzz from England? Too bad cause unlike HD DVD....Blu-Ray uses regional codes to make sure it doesn't work in your player!!

Now, with that being said....Warner has gone Blu. Yes this is a major slap in the face for HD DVD. But the war isn't over kid! It's not over until the HD DVD camp admits defeat. Sure...the meeting was cancelled. Why won't it be. Nobody had any idea that Warner was going to do this...it was speculated but the HD DVD camp is in retreat sure....but give them a chance to respond to Warners move before you go saying the War is over. There's alot of rumours flying around right now. I can't see Microsoft and Toshiba along with Universal...the three guys that made HD DVD. Throwing in the towel just yet. Come on... a xbox 360 with a blu-ray player built into it?! That will be the day kid...that will be the day!!

Let's just see how the dust settles once the CES is over next week.

For the record, it's a sad day. Cause thanks to Warner...you can bet your butts that those "price drops" on blu-ray will be disappearing asap. Sony has no competition if HD DVD folds in. Gone will be the get 10 free blu ray movies with a player. Blu Ray titles will stay at there over $30 price tag.

Course for me.....this is good times. I'm browsing E-bay and waiting for the fire sale from people that think it's over (and maybe it is) and will be selling there HD DVD movies and equipment at a everything must go now sale.

My Toshiba player can still upgrade SD dvd to HD like quality. So I still have High Defination. Like Mal from Firefly....I don't care for Blu-Ray.....I'm a redcoater till the day i die!

Priceless. Gotta love the red ants.

1. Sony bashing is soo 2006.

2. Microsoft *IS* evil.

3. Tell me one place where you can still buy an SDTV.

4. If every movie studio would be backing Blu-ray we wouldn't have the trouble with region coding as the same content would be released everywhere. Hot Fuzz from England will work in my player since I am from europe.

5. I have a PS3, a Samsung BDP-1400 and a Panasonic DMP-BD30 and they all work just fine. Haven't had a single problem with them yet concerning playback issues of certain movies or firmware. Don't even get me started of the whole HD-dvd disc boiling crap...

6. Let's see it's basically:
Microsoft, Toshiba, Universal, Paramount vs. Warner Bros., 20th Century Fox, Sony Pictures, MGM, Disney, Lionsgate, New Line Cinema, Sony, Samsung, Sharp, Philips, Denon, Marantz, Loewe, Apple, Dell, Panasonic, Daewoo, Pioneer, Thomson, JVC, TDK, Acer, Concorde, Gateway, Mitsubishi Electrics, HP, Hitachi, Funai, Thompson,... the list goes on and on. Yeah, it's game over for blu-ray.

7. As for price drops, see my previous post.

8. Fine. Please die asap. Thanks. :)

Yours truly,

Sony

Priceless. Gotta love the red ants.

That's MR. red ants to you boy!

1. Sony bashing is soo 2006.

oh really?! Gee i didn't know. oh well Sony still sucks. They treat there consumers like crap. Just like ever other big company does. Including Microsoft.

2. Microsoft *IS* evil.

Microsoft is evil. I know. Looks like your using a piece of the devil's hardware just to post that Microsoft is evil. Evil is good. Good is overrated!

3. Tell me one place where you can still buy an SDTV.[.quote]

Okay. Wal-mart, Zellers (like target), Sears, futureshop, Best Buy...want me to go on?

4. If every movie studio would be backing Blu-ray we wouldn't have the trouble with region coding as the same content would be released everywhere. Hot Fuzz from England will work in my player since I am from europe.

Really....ummm correct me if I'm wrong here....but isn't every movie studio backing normal DVD's and we still have Region Codes?!

5. I have a PS3, a Samsung BDP-1400 and a Panasonic DMP-BD30 and they all work just fine. Haven't had a single problem with them yet concerning playback issues of certain movies or firmware. Don't even get me started of the whole HD-dvd disc boiling crap...

Wow....is this kind of like the old high school joke of my dick is bigger then yours? I'm glad that you haven't had any problems with your equipment!! But I have Blu-Ray friends that have. Besides...problems with the quipment for guys like us are not really a concern. Why? Cause we know how to fix them. Tell that to joe six back as he's living in his trailer! He's going to be angry and end up taking it pack to where he bought it.

6. Let's see it's basically:
Microsoft, Toshiba, Universal, Paramount vs. Warner Bros., 20th Century Fox, Sony Pictures, MGM, Disney, Lionsgate, New Line Cinema, Sony, Samsung, Sharp, Philips, Denon, Marantz, Loewe, Apple, Dell, Panasonic, Daewoo, Pioneer, Thomson, JVC, TDK, Acer, Concorde, Gateway, Mitsubishi Electrics, HP, Hitachi, Funai, Thompson,... the list goes on and on. Yeah, it's game over for blu-ray.

Yeah....your right! No nation has ever won a war or defeated another country when the odds were 4 to 1 right? There is a rumour.....mind you it's just a rumour as of right now that a couple of those blu-ray supporters are being offered cash to switch alligence.

7. As for price drops, see my previous post.
All i can say to this is just wait until the future. Sony controls the blank Blu-Ray discs. Sony charges royalties to use their Tech....just like every other company. Sony also felt that Joe Average would want a playstation 3 here in Canada for $800 dollars on launch day. They only lowered the price when they started to get there butt handed to them by the wii.

8. Fine. Please die asap. Thanks. :)
Did you just wish me to die? wow. I for see some bad karma in your future. You know I've lasted almost 2 years on this site. I've meet a lot of great people. Sure we have our disagreements and such. Hell you like blu-ray and I like HD DVD. You know in another time or universe, we could have been the best of friends. But wishing me to die...ouch that stings. I can't believe I'm it. But your the first person that I've ever had to add to my ignore list. So since I won't see you anymore. I'm going to take this time to congratulate you and your format. You more then likely have won. But look at the price you just paid. Sometime down the future you might have needed my help with something but instead you decided that your material things were more important then a human being's life.

Good luck to you and have a good life!

Yours truly,

Greg

DVD came out in 1997.

You do realize that Toshiba was taking huge losses trying to compete with Sony? *cough* A2 firesale anyone?? *cough*

Trust me, prices for hardware or software will NOT climb as blu-ray backing CE manufacturers are competing with each other as well. Toshiba didn't have any competition as they were the only company producing HD-dvd players.

:=D::=D::=D:

Tomorrow I'm going to take pictures of stores where they offer 3rd gen players for €250 which is about what you have to pay for a good dvd player as well. :)

And I do know where Melbourne is, I thought I've read 'here in america...' in one of AJs posts but I can't find it anymore.

I *could* if my transfer speed would actually exceed 100-120kbs (on a good day 150-160kbs). I know that's pretty bad for a 3mbit connection (which i pay 50 bucks for each month) but like I said before, I'm living in the middle of nowhere. I could switch to satellite but their internet service charges 200/month for a 10mbit connection. So, Blu-ray is the way to go (for me at least). Also, I want hard copies of the movies I purchase. Including the box, the disc and the artwork. Downloads are NEVER going to happen for me, sorry. And I believe the majority thinks alike.

So you *found* an 38gig file of Babel? That's piracy mind you. ;)

Any HD movie that is under 30gb is just not worth it anyway.

I'd rather be forced to buy Blu-Ray discs than download movies provided by Microsoft, encoded in VC-1 at low bitrates and 720p.

http://speedtest.net/

post your results :)

off a wireless router so i lose a bit of speed but still pretty good
and if your paying $US50 your paying aout the same as me

funny telstra next g mobile network is faster than your sat internet

pretty sad, isn't it? :(

@ screwnutty (if he reads it): [sarcasm]yes, I wish death to every HD-dvd fanboy! :) [/sarcasm]

I wonder how long it will take Universal to release their first Blu-ray disc.

hopefully 100 years !!!
