Firstly, a star is an actor/performer who plays a principal role in a production. Fuck that old '50s Hollywood/glamour definition/ hang-up. A porn actor stars in a porn production, hence 'porn star'.

As for "young and hot", that's way too vague to have much meaning.
But, if we look at a porn star's movies and stills in chronological order, it's often quite easy to see 'fresh and eager' change over to "I'm hot shit" arrogance = stale, and difficult to tolerate.

Then there are the interviews - there should probably never be any interviews. Some people are smart enough to leave the party before they say too much and let people know how stupid and unlikeable they really are.

Is losing interest really turning on them? It's not like a for-better-or-worse boyfriend/husband, you're not committed to them. The industry is shallow so isn't it expectant that the fans be too?

I wish you guys would appreciate that a good number of men in the sex trade are doing well both physically and emotionally. Most of us--I still occasionally see clients after 21 years in the business, and recently made a couple of private videos--are not dependent on porn/rent-boy income, and are in it as much for the experience as anything else.

I was once told to never let another gay man know about my professional sex life, as I'd only get trashed. Has rarely happened. That said, there seem always to be guys on this site eager to trash, and happy to revel in stories--real or imagined--of fallen men who monetize their sexual attractiveness and skills.

Well, think about it. "Star" was used to designate actors of the first rank, the principal roles. This was in contrast to the supporting cast and chorus and extras.

In gay porn, there is no cast. It's just the fucker and the fuckee. Calling them stars for those performances is a bit like calling a housepainter a master, or a DJ a musician. Just because you are one of two who entered a baking contest doesn't make you a master chef.

Star still means an outstanding performer, regardless of the presence of glamor or its absence.

Most porn participants are just present and breathing, not particularly distinguished, nor do they have careers of note.

That's why, despite being a porn consumer, I recognize few porn performers and seek out even fewer.

But like other actors I believe they're worthy of a living wage and proper respect as men.

And it's so much easier saying "stars" than "performers."

Seem to be the exception that proves the rule. Now that more current/former stars are starting to speak out about the industry it just isn't have this shiny, rosy picture that some keep insisting it to be. Just like pro sports, or the music industry, for every success story there seems to be fifteen failures that almost make you wonder why anyone would pursue these things in the first place, and music and sports don't have the added dynamic or stigma of a career in the sex industry which, again, just doesn't seem to be as great a place as you're trying to convince us.
 
Bo Dean shot

I know it been a long time but I just found out Bo Dean has shot a couple of years ago I know they said he would be paralyzed if he did make it. Does anyone know if he lived?

This is about the last that I found on him....as we all know, it must be terrible for him to have been shot and paralyzed without medical insurance in the US.

There was a gofundme page for him. I've been keeping track of this ever since he got shot. Unfortunately, he has recoiled completely into obscurity as there is nothing to be found about it recently. Like nothing at all. The only thing we know is he didn't die.

I'm guessing he wanted his privacy. If this is the case, we should honor it.

Edit.

Before this case, I was are porn stars make bank. Then Bo Dean got shot and couldn't afford the medical bills. Changed my perspective on it.
 
We merged the latest thread into the thread in the porn section. Around post #108 is an earlier discussion about Bo Dean's shooting. From what I recall, his wife or girlfriend is the one who started the GoFundMe page after Bo Dean was paralyzed by the shooting incident in November, 2015. He was able to get partial health insurance coverage for some of the healthcare costs of his injury.

I was surprised that Jasun didn't comment but he may have avoided comment for privacy reasons.
 
He sadly passed away back in 2021.
