Happy birthday Bob. A real artist, he will stand the test of time.

I just made an inventory of my vinyl collection:

My favorite Dylan albums are The Freewheelin' from his early folk days,
the electric Highway 61, the country rock of John Wesley Harding, and
the melancholic Blood on the Tracks & Desire. All released between
1963 to 1976.

Beloved ballads: blowing in the wind; masters of war; it's all over now,
baby blue; like a rolling stone; ballad of a thin man; just like a woman;
obviously 5 believers; all along the watchtower; the wicked messenger;
simple twist of fate; idiot wind; hurricane; one more cup of coffee;
forever young...

http://tu.tv/videos/bob-dylan-ballad-of-a-thin-man

Contains some lines which were casually linked
to certain oral fantasies...

Well, the sword swallower, he comes up to you
And then he kneels
He crosses himself
And then he clicks his high heels
And without further notice
He asks you how it feels
And he says, "Here is your throat back
Thanks for the loan".

And you know something is happening
But you don't know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones ?

Now you see this one-eyed midget
Shouting the word "NOW"
And you say, "For what reason ?"
And he says, "How ?"
And you say, "What does this mean ?"
And he screams back, "You're a cow
Give me some milk
Or else go home".

To help avoiding misinterpretations of his songs, Mr. Dylan dragged in the
mid-sixties often some big light bulbs around - to brighten his fans...

Re: It's Bob Dylan's 70th Birthday

As with Rolling Stone magazine and elsewhere on the occasion of Bob Dylan's 70th birthday, in this week's online edition of The Village Voice, in music critic David Yaffe's blog, is his interesting list, in two parts, as follows…

Bob Dylan's 70 Best Songs, A-Z (Part 1) and Seventy on Seventy (Part 2)

Here, for your consideration, is the list I now would like to start: 'Most Hilarious Covers of Bob Dylan Songs' (whether intentional or not)…

Number One…

Re: It's Bob Dylan's 70th Birthday

I've seen him maybe a dozen times. His voice is really shot. I really like his music, I just can't stand him murdering good songs anymore.

Bob Dylan is just the incredible mixture of the qualities of egomaniac Karajan, attention-whore Madonna and any funny bardic tune-peddling hobo in any corner of the world, pumped up by the golden era of discographic industry and zillions of starry-eyed, caustic-gutted music illiterate converging with him in the right era.

Re: It's Bob Dylan's 70th Birthday

IMO, Jokerman was the best Dylan song. He has many good songs but the lyrics in this one out do most of his work and many others.

Re: It's Bob Dylan's 70th Birthday

Dear Bob Dylan,
people still think your music was created for hippies and trial lawyers.
it seems they still have no common sense.

Sincerly Yours Truly,
Esteban Romo.
There may be some of those that you say who judge art only for its subject or its circumstances and forget about the part of art itself; however, it still remains true that he has expressed a higher opinion of himself and of his music than the rest of music history, before or after, shows plainly to any creature endowed with common sense... and musical knowledge and sensibility, since we are ultimately talking about music, aren't we?

Historische Fehlurteile

Ballad of a Thin Man in the top five - alright. But Like a Rolling Stone
only at position # 29 ? - That's no serious judgement... . :##:

...than the sweeping majority of music history - to put it bluntly.

Since it would be unfair to compare Mr. Dylan with a true musical
genius like Don Van Vliet...

It's a popularity list, what's that got to do with judgement

Sheryl Crow ?
