On the weekend in 1978 when this song hit, every radio station in Phoenix, Arizona, saw the switchboard light up like a Christmas tree!

Bobby Caldwell has died at age 71, but he will be remembered for his signature song that stands outside the conventions of 70's music.

I loved that song. I still have the LP.

RIP Bobby

Rumor has it that the studio was concerned about audience reaction over Bobby's "non-blackness". 😂

I just assumed he was black when I heard him and since his album jut showed a silhouette sitting on a bench I never gave it another thought.

When I eventually saw he wasn't black I was surprised but it didn't change anything one way or the other.

I came back to let you know....got a thing for you and I can't let go.... RIP :(

I was having dinner with friends at El Chorro's Patio in Paradise Valley when Bobby's song came over the outdoor speakers.
I can still see my best friend's girlfriend tugging at his shirt as Bobby sings, "what you won't do".
The waitress laughed so hard she almost spilled my drink . . . I didn't mind a bit!

Rest In Peace Bobby Caldwell.

Sorry gone so young.

RIP thanks for posting always thought this was a black group -great song

So sorry to hear this. The whole world loves "What You Won't Do For Love." Bobby was a consummate musician with many recordings. I'll be going through the catalog in remembrance.

Bobby Caldwell along with co-writer Paul Gordon composed the Grammy nominated #1 hit song "Next Time I Fall" performed by the lovely Pop/Christian artist Amy Grant ("Baby Baby") and former Chicago member Peter Cetera ("Glory Of Love"). A very unexpected pairing that became a classic still heard on music broadcasts today. In 2020 it was listed by Billboard magazine as one of music's top 25 love song duets. Mr. Caldwell also recorded the song for his 1988 album "Heart of Mine".
