Do you guys think that it is possible to catch another guys body odour or bad breath? I'm thinking yes, because they are mainly caused by bad odour producing bacteria right? Just wondering what you guys think.

I know for sure bad breath can be spread. As for body odour, I'm not sure.

Bacteria may be spread and shared on the body or in the mouth. Soap, water, toothpaste and mouthwash will certainly destroy the bacteria. Maybe the problem is both of you are eating the same things and sharing the same activities.

Body odor is not catching.

If the body odor is due to an infection, the infection may be contagious, such as a sexually transmitted disease. Inherited conditions may be passed on to children through the genes.

Also, foul-mouth odors are also NOT contagious, because someone may have poor dental hygiene, is the usual reason for smells of the mouth and if they take care by proper brushing/flossing, then the smells/odors "should" go away; if NOT, then there is something else more serious wrong and they/you should consult a dentist....

I am NOT very fond of bad-breath and if I am going to kiss that mouth, it has to be clean or else NO!

I'm sorry; but if you are really, really smelly and it's from long-time/term NOT bathing then I want a shower (with you of course) and then we will roll-in-the-hay!!!

I think breath mints are fab!(*8*) (*8*)

Thanks for the responses guys.

Well here's why I asked...

I never had a body odour problem throughout my late teens upto around twenty. Well it was nowhere as bad as some of the other smells I experienced in the boys changing rooms at school at the time. Whenever I smelt my armpits, my sweat was very mild, not very smelly at all, just that general salty/unfresh smell. When I was about twenty/twenty-one, I had my first sexual experience with this other guy. Whenever we were intimate with each other, mostly cuddling in the nude, I noticed that he had a very bad body odour. At the time I didn't think much of it as I never heard of anyone catching someone else's body odour before, so I really didn't think it would be a problem. That was when I first ever encountered this pungent body odour smell I have now.

Throughout most of my life, my brother and I would use each others towels (mostly after they've been washed of course) and there was never any problem with regards to smells. We would have one each at any given time, but sometimes he kept forgetting which one he was using at the time and mistakenly used mine. A few times he would do this (after I started seeing this guy), and that's when I began noticing that particular pungent body odour smell on him. This started freaking me out...

I remember once when he came back from 5 a side football game and he told me how much his football shirt stank. So I went to his room to check for myself and sure enough his shirt reeked of this same pungent odour. I keep feeling really guilty for all these girls he's unknowingly passing this smell on to...

Also, I started experimenting with a close friend of mine (while I was seeing that guy) after he came out to me as bi. Since then, I've noticed the smell appearing on him as well...

Now with regards to bad breath... I think I've always had that problem from an early age... A while ago, I noticed a thread where someone suggested to the OP that it could be caused by sinus drainage. I'm not absolutely sure, but I have always had a feeling that that could mostly be what's causing mine...

Well I used to do a lot of kissing with my close friend who is bi, and I never ever remembered him having bad breath before I started kissing him...

I have told my close friend about my theory, but he doesn't believe either to be true.

For years now I virtually shower everyday and do everything possible to reduce my bad breath, like chew gum (although not good on an empty stomach....) or rinse out my mouth, because I always like to feel clean and fresh. Shaving my armpit hair also seems to reduce the smell. So far, whenever I have been intimate with anyone I always made sure that I cleaned myself very thoroughly beforehand. So you would never know that I had a problem. However, I now feel very reluctant to be intimate with anyone else as I'm worried that they will end up getting whatever I have.

Well anyway... I was mainly just wondering if any other guys out there have had a similar experience, that's if anyone is willing to admit to it which I know not many people are...

I read papers saying that gay men like odour smelling but where this site seem like clean...

Well, I guess some odours could be nice, probably if it's very subtle or mild and if you find the guy (where the smell is coming from) very attractive.

A good idea might be to do a de-tox diet.

Don't know what kind of diet you have...if you eat a lot of red meat/junk food, that might be the cause. Also it's important to be very regular...bathroom-wise.

If you do eat a lot of junk food & red meat...give it up for a month. Eat more fruit & vegetables...lots of apples & broccoli...raw veg, like carrots.

Maybe do a fast...just apple juice for one weekend.

Get some good advise about flushing out your system.

Yes, smells can be passed on to people. If you hang out with someone who has a strong smell you can absorb it into your breath and body odor...but it will only last a few days, at most. Unless, of course, you're with them all the time.

Hope this helps.

As far as I know, I don't smell

Nah sorry mate you do :)

Seriously tho there are so many factors that lead to a god aweful body smell.

There was a guy that I worked with that I am sure was possesed by Satan. Not only would he smell but it was eteranlly sticky as well so wherever his stuff was so was the smell.

He even went to a endocrinologist but it doesn't seem to have done a whole heap.

At times I feel sorry for the guy, but probably more for the person that has do do his laundry ;)

Ho hum
