i was wondering if anyone here watches bollywood movies and would want to discuss :) maybe we can discuss and make recommendations

I used to watch more but my Bollywood viewing has dwindled almost to nothing lately. :( I'm strictly a recommendee, and not a recommender. That being said, from my netflix queue...Om Shanti Om, Chak De! India, a whole buncha Satyajit Ray (I know he's not Bollywood, but), a couple of Bimal Roy movies, Jagte Raho and Utsab.

Feel free to make the most general of suggestions.

Movies from India I've enjoyed in the past...Ankur, Karan Arjun, Lagaan, Mugal-e-Azam, Sahib Bibi aur Ghulam, Shree 420, Umrao Jaan, Amar Akbar Anthony, Deewar, Dhoom 2 (!oops!), Don, Kagaaz ke Phool, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, Kal Ho Na No, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Mother India and Sharaabi. God knows as an outsider I've tried to appreciate Sholay, but I have to be honest, it's a struggle.

Hopefully others will have more to add.

Hi! Guess it's just the two of us :)

Some of those are so great! I miss being able to keep up w them as our local theater stopped their showings. I'm trying go find kurrbaan and 3 idiots online though- both are supposed to be excellent!

I'll bump something up my queue and post back here after viewing.

The last thing I caught was Slumdog Millionaire...don't know if that even counts as Bollywood...but I thought it was only so so.

eh i dont really count slumdog as bollywood-- even if it did have a musical number at the end ;)

zoltan what are you planning on bumping up your queue? :)

Krrish. Looking forward to some crazy Hrithik dancing. People who think Michael Jackson could haven't seen Roshan.

Also added No Smoking, Bawarchi and Satyam, Shivam, Sundaram: Love Sublime to my list.

Thought about adding My Brother Nikhil, Dosar, Cheeni Kum, Ab Tak Chhappan and a couple others, but didn't commit.

i've seen most hindi movies my fav is jaane tu ya jaane na an no entry!

I've grown up watching Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu movies.

There's too many movies I like to name them.

My fave actors in Bollywood are Amitabh, Rani, Ajay, Madhuri, Saif, Bipasha, Aamir, Aishwarya, Aftab, Tabu, Abhishek, Priyanka, Ranbir, and Konkona. I love all of the younger actors in Telugu and Tamil.

When I'm overwhelmed by choices like this I find winnowing down the field by making categories is helpful. Five or ten favorite comedies or Tamil classics or contemporary Hindi thrillers, so on and so forth.

Give us a shot, we wanna know what you like! :-)

Also, since this is a gay forum, what about that? Has anyone seen the aforementioned My Brother...Nikhil? The only other desi-centric movie with a gay theme I know about is Touch of Pink. I thought it was cute. Any more?

I wasn't even aware one was planned to be filmed locally until I read this in today's paper:

Big-budget Bollywood flick pulls out of Miami

BY DOUGLAS HANKS

Miami's new role as Bollywood West will have to wait.

The Indian movie that was slated to bring Bollywood's biggest star to Miami scratched plans to shoot in South Florida, citing production costs, film officials said Monday.

Ra.One would have been a major coup for South Florida's film industry given its leading man: Shahrukh Khan, dubbed ``the world's biggest movie star'' by Newsweek magazine two years ago. It would have been the second Bollywood movie brought to South Florida in two years, following production of the 2008 blockbuster Dostana.

I realize I'm starting to sound like a stalker but I'm watching saathiya for the first time in years and I'm just reminded again how freaking hot vivek oberoi is and how he would have been a HUGE star if he never got involved with Ash and her drama with her homicidal steroid addicted ex. Such a shame! He is so talented and soooooo much hotter than most of the guys who have made it- (SRK and Abisheik I'm looking at you)

Ya he made some bad choices esp with hum Tum but I really feel like those 2 used their pull to make things worse for him.

Krrish came and went four or five days ago. Meh. Probably not the best choice after not watching anything for awhile. I persisted hoping the dancing would save it for me, but it seemed like the choreographer didn't give Roshan much to do.

You know I'm not a huge Hrithik fan but damn that boy cab dance!

I'm halfway through Bachana ae haseeno- I do NOT get the appeal of Ranbir at all! He has ugly and has noo connection/ emotion at all. There are quite a few actors who's comedic timing would have actually made this movie funny. What was Deepik thinking dating this clown?!
