Hilary Duff is set to play one-half of notorious bank-robbing duo Bonnie and Clyde in a new indie film.

Unlike the classic 1967 flick starring Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway, the new take, titled The Story of Bonnie and Clyde, will focus less on the former's largely fictionalized shoot-'em-ups and more on the actual lives of the Depression-era bandits. Kevin Zegers (The Jane Austen Book Club, Transamerica) will play Duff's partner in crime.

Duff will shoot the flick in her downtime from her new NBC series, Barely Legal.

Ew! Bonnie & Clyde is my favorite movie ever! Hillary Duff? Really? I always thought Reese Witherspoon would've been perfect...if it had to be re-done. This'll suck.

Heard anything on the Justice league movie ????

This makes me very sad.

Re: Bonnie & Clyde are about to take their guns ag

Hilary Duff actually does look a bit like Faye Dunaway did in the Bonnie and Clyde movie and it also seems believable that she could pull off that innocent yet not innocent thing they gave Bonnie in the old movie.

Kevin Zeggers is really Hot and a great actor but doesn't really give off a Clyde vibe.

I still don't think this will work though. It'll probably turn out something like the modern day Romeo and Juliet with Leonardo DiCaprio. I think they need to cast older actors. These actors still look like they could be teens and I don't really like seeing teens with guns in movies. Real teenagers are crazy and capable of doing really stupid things and are more likely to do it from seeing people who look like them do it rather than adults.

It'd be weird seeing Hilary taking on a role where she's a bad person though. Even though they glorify Bonnie and Clyde to make audiences root for them and want them to get away when they're doing terrible things.

hilary duff + bonnie & clyde = straight to video

Re: Bonnie & Clyde are about to take their guns ag

So they're taking a ground breaking cinematic text and giving it to post-teen adolescent stars with the hopes that money and pretty people will make cash?

Aside from my own misgivings (this was regarded as THE film for film studies) I'm betting most of the production staff and directors in hollywood will want nothing to do with this.

"I think they need to cast older actors."

I think Duff and Zegers are around the right age. Duff is 21, Zegers 24. The real Bonnie was 19 when she met Clyde, who was shy of 21, and both were 23 and 25. respectively, when they died.

If anything, the original movie cast were much older (Beatty was 30, Dunaway was 26, Hackman was 37, Parsons was pushing 40) than their historical counterparts, who were all in their early to mid-20s.

Oh, I didn't know that. See that's what happens when they always cast people 7-10 years older than they should be. Especially when it's based off real people.

Re: Bonnie & Clyde are about to take their guns ag

I think Zegers might do well.. but not Disney Duff. Her movies have all been either comedies or romantic comedies(that I know of) and I sincerely doubt that prepares her for the more serious stuff. Put a different actress in there, and possibly a different actor, preferably older and with more experience in acting, and a healthy respect for the oldies.

I smell a razzie...

Favorite soundbite of the week:

"They couldn't find an actual actress?"
-Faye Dunaway on Hillary Duff starring as Bonnie in an upcoming remake.

I think that sums it up...|

Re: Bonnie & Clyde are about to take their guns ag

I think the sad part is that they COULD find a real actress they just didn't bother to. There are more than a view struggling undiscovereds out there who I'm sure could've rocked the role. And i must say I haven't seen her performance yet and if Duff pulls it off I'll eat my words but I doubt it.
