How the Irish Won the American Revolution

It's amazing they didn't teach this in school: more than two-fifths of the regulars in the Continental Army fighting the British were Irish immigrants to America who had left Ireland because of oppression by the British. They were the ones who stuck it out in Valley Forge when British-descended soldiers packed it in, the ones to whom crossing a river filled with chunks of ice that could crush a boat was just another risk taken in striking back at an empire that had persecuted and oppressed their ancestors for centuries.

Indeed on British lord at the time observed that if their forebears had had the wisdom to treat the Irish as equal subjects, there would never have been an American Revolution, because there wouldn't have been enough colonists willing to fight.

Saw the movie Everest and wanted to know more about the 1996 events

Good read, a lot of facts but not too technical. I was hoping for more detail about what happened before, during and after the expeditions and this covers those areas.

The premises are tantalizing, but it practically begs for post-colonialist and/or feminist criticism.
