BOOKS: What are you reading?

I read several books at once... so that I don't have to read the exact same thing every day.

Currently:

THE ENNEADS by Plotinus
THE METAMORPHOSES by Ovid
THE SECOND CADFAEL OMNIBUS by Ellis Peters
THE NORTON BOOK OF CLASSICAL LITERATURE by Various
THE MYSTERIES OF LONDON George W.M. Reynolds

Currently Reading: Brave By Rose McGowan, Madonna By Andrew Morton and The Handmaid's Tale By Margaret Atwood

Is anyone here into Gothic novels, such as THE CASTLE OF OTRANTO, THE MONK, THE MYSTERIES OF UDOLPHO, or MELMOTH THE WANDERER?

^ Not really, but I read The Castle of Otranto together with Vathek and Nightmare Abbey once because they were in one volume. I don't think I really read the last one, but just leafed through it.

Going Postal by Terry Pratchett

I think Thackeray's Vanity Fair is now my favorite Victorian novel. It's fat, like a lot of those serial novels.

But Mrs Rawdon Crawely! If you don't love her, you're not alive.

Speaking of Vanity Fair, just finished reading Vulgar Favors by Maureen Orth to see how it differs from ACS The Assassination of Gianni Versace.

Assassination of Gianni Versace based on TV series on FX. Lots of kinky sex by Andrew Cunanan who used ways to seduce any one he could screw.

At Home, by Bill Bryson. The subtitle is, "A Short History of Private Life, and he goes from room to room in his house telling interesting tidbits from history. I have read his travel writing and the man can tell a story. The breadth of his interests is amazing.

WONDERS OF THE UNIVERSE by Brian Cox
GRIMM'S FAIRY TALES
COUNT RODERIC'S CASTLE

John Darnielle's Wolf in White Van (2014) nominated for the National Book Award.

A teenage boy recovers from an injury that's left his face a shambles of reconstructive surgeries.

"I worry that you'll be lonely," his mother says.

"I was going to be lonely anyway."

Intimate, devastating and rewarding.

Just finished reading Carsick by John Waters. Great, funny, and interesting book. I think he should turn it into a movie. It would make a great movie in my opinion.

I just started reading Role Models by John Waters.

When the Emperor was Divine. (about Japanese-American internment)
