  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Borat

For 5 minutes, I'd find it funny, but after fifteen, I'd want to strangle him. After an hour and a half, I'd have strangled myself.

As I'm sure you can tell, it's really not my sort of thing.

I was actually talking about the peasants of Kazakstan... poor, ugly, incestuous, slutty and living in squalor. It's not that funny for much longer than two minutes. And it's not that funny to me at all, really.

I don't know what the rest of the movie would be like, but that trailer just looks like the Beverly Hillbillies mixed with every former Soviet Union stereotype going.

I mean, I don't find Will Farrell characters that funny either, so maybe this is just the same thing.

Will Ferrell - meh. Not my favourite, either.

Borat is usually excellent in bite-sized bits on Ali G - not sure if an entire movie would be only entertaining (as the Ali G movie was) or utterly brilliant.

I saw it.

Will it go down in history as one of the great moments of cinematography? Nope.

Did it entertain me for 1 1/2 hours? Yep.

Would I recommend it to a friend? It depends.

Will those frat boys ever get another date for the rest of their lives? I doubt it.

What has happened to the writing talent in this country?
From the infancy of TV, Milton Berle knew that putting a man in a dress would get laughs. That was 50+ years ago and they're still doing it in movies and TV. Granted "Tootsie" and "Mrs Doubtfire" were moderately good, but there's been a deluge of crappy comedies using that ploy.
Now the confused foreigner, with the amusing accent and quaint opinions is back again.
I would be so enjoyable to see something new rather than resurrecting stale, unamusing dreck.
