Well almost.

Resigned but not gone.

Hated by millions. Probably loved by millions.

But gone as a result of his own sloppy habits and lies.

I need to catch up because so much has been going on, then out of nowhere on my newsfeed.... the entire UK government is walking out?

^ it just shows you how cowardly American Republicans are

If only they had managed this with Corbyn when there was still time to have prevented the UK from doing the stupid thing.

Jeeezuz.

I am out out for the dqy.

I mean I’d like to think a potato could have stopped Boris and stopped Brexit so it’s not like I wanted that much from Corbyn.

I’ve never seen such an entirely dumb political class:

Cameron: “This is a stupid idea, let’s ask!”

Corbyn: “This is a stupid idea I guess. Let’s talk about capitalism and the Jews!”

May: “This is a stupid idea, and We Shall Make a Success of it!”

Corbyn: “This is a stupid idea because it’s a distraction from the issue people really want to talk about: who exactly controls the means of production in this country. I heard some chaps wondering about that just the other day!”

Johnson: “This is a really stupid idea and we’re just going to go for it! It will be fine! Sorrry about all the lying and empty bluster!I watched a couple of Hugh Grant films though and I really think I can pull off The Bumbling Fop and if I can do that, Europe had better listen!”

Starmer: “It’s a very dumb idea but we won’t be revisiting it.”

The only person to have said “Let’s stop the stupid idea” is the nearby fossilized Michael Heseltine.

Ok this may be redundant but... what the phuck is happening in the world? Is this armagedon?

That’s how parliamentary systems work.

Boris is gone because his own party [STRIKE]had concerns about some points of principle under his leadership and felt obliged to the country to resign themselves, as a matter of honour and duty[/STRIKE] realized people were so fed up with him, he’ll probably torpedo them in the next election if he sticks around and it was “either him or us”. So, they shook him loose.

If your own team doesn’t want you, there’s no term limits or primary fights or whatever, they just take you down. In Australia, they have probably already scheduled the first cage match to decide how long their new pm can stick around.

Two men enter. One man leaves. Is that how thunder dome goes again? I forget. Two men enter one man. Leaves! I dunno Tina take it away:

The problem all political parties faced with Brexit was that in the 2016 referendum, 52% of people voted to leave the EU. The reason (or at least one main reason) Boris won the 2019 general election was that he promised to carry out the wish of the majority. A large number of pro-brexit traditional Labour voters preferred that to the Labour Party's non-policy of sitting on the fence and possibly holding another referendum and gave Boris the biggest win since the days of Margaret Thatcher.

I'm more concerned about what he'll do next. Serious Prime Ministers typically return to the back benches and keep their mouths shut, then serve in the Upper House, then fade away and write their memoirs. Johnson had a previous career as a political journalist and caught the public eye as a sort of "character" panellist on TV comedy quiz shows. I'd like to think he's got the sense to put all that behind him. My advice to Boris, if he happens to be frittering away an idle hour browsing JUB and sees this, is to say goodbye to all that and go back to his original speciality, namely Greek and Latin history, literature and philosophy. Some years ago he presented a very interesting television series about the Romans and he could well win an appreciative audience again by sharing his learning and enthusiasm. He was a chancer who took one chance too many but he still has something to offer.

Since the death of Lady Thatcher in 2013, there have been no former Prime Ministers in the House of Lords.

House of Lords? Who comes up with this stuff? No wonder the Earth is trying its damnedest to take us down a notch or seven.

It's like House of Wax but their lips move and they can blink. Most of them, anyway.

My favourite talking head for unbiased comment, Mallen Baker, has plenty to say about the matter in hand this evening. In the last item, starting at 19:46, he gives a "short thought" (i.e., medium-length sermon) on the qualities of a good leader. I wonder if any of the Conservative leadership hopefuls are taking notes.

So I admit, I really don't understand England's system at all. Is there like...nobody in charge now? What if something happens? Who is in charge until there is someone new? The Queen? Not that she can do it at her age. Is there already an "acting" Prime Minister that I don't know about? Or do we just sit and wait for the election and pray for no disaster in the meantime?

Boris has resigned as Leader of the Conservative Party, but he has not yet resigned as Prime Minister. He will remain PM until a new party leader is elected at which point he will tender his resignation to the Queen who will then invite the new leader to form a government.

The Queen is head of state and the PM is head of government. In the US, I think both roles are combined in the President.
