Bottle deposits and refunds

Bottle deposits and refunds are required in Michigan at .10cents per bottle. When covid reared its head small party stores were granted a reprieve from taking back empties. That reprieve ended on June 1st. These stores are required by law to take up to $25. per day in empties from each customer.

Our local 7-11 still won't take empties, I stop there for a 6 pack on occasion. They tell me that "corporate" won't allow it. I have been told that other party stores in the area still refuse these empties as well. Most people end up taking the bottles to places like Kroger which has machines so no one has to handle the empties except the person returning them.

So, do you feel that these small stores should be reported for refusing to take back bottles that came from their stores? If they sell the beer and soft drinks should they not be required to take back empties and refund the deposits?

Live in Chicago and the last deposit was on some Oberweis Chocolate milk in a glass bottle!

Report them - if they are collecting the deposit they should take them back.

Go for it. If they're not prepared to take back empty bottles, they should be prevented from selling full ones.

Where I live they have machines where you can deposit recyclables and get a voucher to use in nearby stores.
