As many of you know, I went into the real estate rental business a couple years back. I decided not to expand this year while I pay back some loans and just plain ole save up some money. So, I decided to try something new.

Ever heard of buying pallets of stuff from stores like lowes, home depot, Sam's club, etc? They are mostly returned items, overstocked items, etc. Bought a shitload of these pallets.

LOL I did not plan ahead. Apparently, cataloging them and listing them on the various market places online is a full time job in of itself.

Anyone ever tried anything like this before? How did it work out for you?

OMG. I can't imagine doing such a thing.

There are surprisingly a lot of brand new stuff. Never been open and stuff. From what I know, stores regularly get rid of old unsold stuff to stock up new stuff. So I am right now trying to list all the new stuff first before moving onto returned items.

Got a bunch of brand new sump pumps, garbage disposals, light fixtures, etc.

How does this help you pay off loans and save money?

Used to watch those vids on YouTube, mostly crap stuff and a nightmare to sell on.

Hoping to make a profit. And keep me busy. Since income from my rentals are mostly passive, I'm just looking for something else to do for now that makes money. Also, the first 5 items I sold covered the cost of everything I bought.

I guess some that might be useful in your properties at good price.

Ya. I'm saving a lot of things like light fixtures and ceiling fans.

LOL one of the pallets had a bunch of brand new high quality toilets. I went ahead and used them to replace toilets in some of my rentals.

Maybe it's just me, but perhaps there's a reason it is unsold.

No idea. But I have been selling brand new sump pumps and garbage disposals for $100-400 each. They selling like hot cakes.

Edit.

Remember my toilet thread?

One of the pallets had 7-8 new toilets. I confirmed had I bought each one at the store it would have been $250 or so. I bought the pallet for $100. Instead of selling, I put them in my rentals.

It sounds like this is working out really well for you. Congrats.

Yes and no. Yes I have made back what I put into it. But at this point I'm not sure it is worth it considering how much work needs to be put into it.

Brand new items are great. But once you move past brand new items, you get to open box items and returned items. You gotta test each one to make sure they work. Then there are just junk stuff that go right into the trash.

After I get rid of all these, I'm not sure I wanna do this again LOL.
