I think that they eventually made up because Ben got married soon after that.

It probably has more to do with the arsenic he has put in the cup and not wanting to get any on his fingertips. Sure he could turn the cup but it might cause some poisoned coffee to splash over the sides and he wouldnt want to waste a drop that could do you in. He probably has it down to a system so that he doesnt get his mug confused with yours.
