You should never insert anything up your manhole and let it disappear completely, always leave something to grab onto so you can pull it out. It’s possible to have something get stuck up there that you can’t retrieve. I work in a hospital emergency room, so I’ve seen some things that are pretty awful. And doctors and nurses also talk about some of the crazy things they’ve seen.
