Re: Brand New JUB Message Board Coming Soon!

As it is currently configured, you will still be “informed” by text appearing in a thin banner within the thread that the member you are ignoring has added content to the thread.

I don’t facebook, but what you are requesting is to make the other member’s content become entirely invisible. Correct?

I think that could be done.

If other members are interested in that option, please post in this thread to indicate your interest.

I can't remember which one, but one forum I'm on has two levels: ""ignore", which still lets you see quoted content and tells you when an ignored person has said something (you see the name but no post content), and "Mute", which makes the target invisible.

I like that system.

Re: Brand New JUB Message Board Coming Soon!

I'm looking forward to discovering whatever changes this will include. New emojies...yeh!

Wondering/hoping there'll be some kind of feature that will act like a bookmark in the stories section. There's been a few long stories with many chapters that I got into reading then had trouble finding/remembering where I'd left off, and finally quit out of frustration. Any thing like that gonna be available?

Thanks for your work!

:cowboy:

Yes, a bookmark function in stories would be really good.

I third the motion.

Heck, I'd like to be able to do that with any story I'm writing, so I can review and know where I left off reviewing!

For that matter, the story forum should allow us to edit our own content (with a notice that it's been edited). I've caught myself in some consistency errors but no way to fix them.

Sorry to hear that.

Whenever websites do a update/upgrade/new-version (or whatever else you want to call it) its never a good thing (infact its the opposite).
Oh well..don't really matter I'm not on here much anymore anyway.

I've seen one update that went smoothly and was very beneficial, but then they did it in steps, so one week private messaging changed, then the moderation features changed, then the image loading feature changed, etc. That took one heck of a lot of work by the technical staff!

Sadly the next time it was evident they needed an upgrade they just closed the forum.

Re: Brand New JUB Message Board Coming Soon!

Its just been my experience through the years(and getting far worse in the last few) that when a site does an upgrade so many times they don't work right (or in some cases don't work at all)
(some other website would be the most recent..and a prime example: the did an "upgrade" this summer... now all I get is a blank screen even trying a couple different browsers. I gave up on that website (certainly miss the storm/weather servers I visited), but it flat out isn't going to work anymore . LOL

Hopefully XenForo won't be like that (and won't be overloaded with a bunch of Javascript & CSS like so many sites...those things are where the issues arise)
Basically hope it actually works with the browsers I use (which aren't those 3 or 4 everyone's heard of) .LOL. (& ideally JavaScript off)
----------------------------

Yep..I've been here long enough to remember a few of those... one in particular that was so bad you guys had to back-track to the previous version
I certainly hope this one is less painful on your end! (and in the end breathes more life into the forum)
Awhile back I kinda remember somewhere else seeing that bit about XenForo's developer.

I never did figure out the current system for uploading images. !oops!

I like the system Quora uses: they actually store the image on their servers, which is awesome because if the source site shuts down or deletes an image it still appears in a post.

Re: Brand New JUB Message Board Coming Soon!

The disadvantage I see in using the “Start conversation” feature when responding to a specific post is that the system will not pre-load a title for the conversation, nor provide a link to the post to which your comment applies.

That sucks!

Re: Brand New JUB Message Board Coming Soon!

popularity contest = more sock puppet accounts

Will JUB finally get with the times and allow users to delete their posts and accounts? Every major social media network does; a gay porn website should too

I hate sites that do that; they screw up the conversation flow.

There's a forum I was on briefly that if a member quit their posts stayed but the member name was replaced by a code number. Any time a post just had a code number you knew it wasn't an active member, and in the rare case when a member returned their posts would revert to their name.

Re: Brand New JUB Message Board Coming Soon!

It offers a Dark Theme, btw. I'm still looking for emojis you'll like.

200w.gif

There used to be a site that had an awesome set of emojis; I used them regularly because they were all set up to just click and drop for another site. If I can remember the name.... and if they archived the content....

Re: Brand New JUB Message Board Coming Soon!

I'm surprised you didn't get more responses.

I would be interested, as an option, to be able to make a member's content become entirely invisible. However, I would also like the option to have it work as it does at this time. If I HAD to choose between the two options, I would want to keep it working like it does at this time.

This reminded me: one site has a "block" function that keeps another member from replying or commenting on your posts. You can choose whether or not to still see their content. I find it a useful feature.

Re: Brand New JUB Message Board Coming Soon!

How about adding an option in our profile for posting our age (or even age range)? Maybe that would cause bulling due to age or even more boomer remarks. There are times I would like to know how much life experience someone has when they make a comment.

What do other members think about this being an optional profile entry?

In terms of life experience, I dropped into a forum the other day (to correct some erroneous content) that had a spot on profiles where you could list experiences and areas of knowledge. It was great for being able to see who was just posing and who knew what they were talking about.

Re: Brand New JUB Message Board Coming Soon!

x2 for post delete too, i wrote this huge 500 paragraph post that was supposed to go in a different thread and must've jumped tabs cuz it's in a random other thread so now there's a fiery retort missing in one convo and it's totally derailing an innocent rareboy thread. it'll be 4 years before a mod responds to the post report by then the damage is done.

I don't understand ignore functions. Across all platforms twitter facebook if I don't wanna see someone I scroll past them, what ever happened to self control? What I've seen happen is this feature gets abused and becomes a way to taunt someone without retaliation. My humble opinion, waste of a button.

There are boards where unless you actually threaten someone's life anything goes. When there are thousands of people posting, the ignore function allows you to cut down on what you have to scroll through by weeding out the idiots.

Or like is happening these days, there are 'members' who are obviously paid trolls putting out Russian and Chinese propaganda and their posts can take up ridiculous amounts of space so it's just easier to put them on ignore. And another category is people who attack every single thing you post with insults and slurs that probably kills brain cells to read the stuff.

JUB is never going to have the problem of "thousands of members" posting.

There's like 6 people that post now, I don't understand why we can't just exercise a little self control, we're all grown.

True, but you referenced "all platforms".

Re: Brand New JUB Message Board Coming Soon!

Around 6am eastern time on Wednesday September 14th we will start transitioning to the new message board software. I have completed this message board upgrade on my site Broke Straight Boys and it is light years in the future compared to VBulletin. It was a pretty seamless transition and I have learned a lot of what to do before the transition so I expect this to go smoothly as well. I would expect the message board to be down all morning and possibly part of the afternoon while we adjust all the settings, skin it, make sure the redirects are working and the million other things we have to do. The software is very robust so there is a lot of settings. You guys will love it and yes we have tried to upgrade before and failed but that was because we were trying to upgrade VBulletin when honestly that software is a POS. I expect to only have minor issues as we did with our test import.

I would make sure you know your login to JUB because your browser is going to most likely not remember it. If you have your browser remember your login you can always look into your browser settings for your current password. We will have support, mods and myself on stand by for login issues.

Big thanks to KaraBulut and opinterph for being a huge help during this process. So on Wednesday expect to never deal with VBulletin again and we finally move JUB into the current century and hopefully bring JUB back to all it's glory. I'll see you all on the flip side.

Cheers,
Mark

There are also posters whose sole objective is to twist every conversation to their paranoid delusions.
I like that I can ignore their 'contributions' to a thread

^Couldn't this potentially lead to people abusing the function by putting someone on ignore then throwing passive aggressive (and sometimes direct) shots over the fence? :rotflmao:

You don't need extra buttons if you have #selfcontrol
