I LUUUUUURVE my toast topped with a smidge of vegemite, sliced fresh tomato and a good grinding of pepper. I eat it practically every day for brekky. At the moment tomatoes are in season and we're getting a regular supply of fresh home-grown ones from a friend. They are so much yummier than bought ones! ...

I love home-grown tomatoes! The "winter" tomatoes in the grocery store are mealy and have no flavor. I'll wait 'til Summer to grow my own and eat them like mad.

I have no idea what vegemite even tastes like.

i have home baked white bread toasted over the stove and multi-grain cheerios with 1% milk

That brekky looks delicious, Ozzy!

I usually just have cereal - I don't wake early enough to have anything more complicated than at.

On my days off, I'll make pancakes, or eggs or something a little more elaborate.

:D

I just might go there and see what it's all about. I'm always open to trying new foods out.

Vegemite is a dark brown Australian food paste made from yeast extract. It is a spread for sandwiches, toast, crumpets and cracker biscuits, and filling for pastries such as Cheesymite scroll. It is similar to British, New Zealand, and South African Marmite and to Swiss Cenovis.

Vegemite is made from used brewers' yeast extract, a by-product of beer manufacturing, and various vegetable and spice additives. It is salty, slightly bitter, and malty — similar to beef bouillon. The texture is smooth and sticky. It is not as intensely flavoured as British Marmite and it is less sweet than the New Zealand version of Marmite.

Vegemite has not been successfully marketed in other countries, apart from New Zealand and to a lesser extent in the United Kingdom, despite being owned by US food company Kraft Foods. When seen in the United States, the Vegemite label often does not contain the Kraft logo.

@OP: I don't like tomatoes, so I'll have to pass your offer...:lol:

I usually have the variations of wheat and rice products as breakfast, like vermicelli, noodles, and the other which English I don't know (hor-fun etc.). My family is a huge fan of it, though I'm not.

I prefer the Western breakfast style.

I usually have a two slices of Milton's Multi-Grain bread (sometimes I toast it but I'm frequently too sleepy to be bothered) with butter or margarine (whatever's in the dish at the moment), plus a banana, a fistful of pills, and three cups of coffee...and it takes me forty-five minutes to consume all these since I have one piece of food with each cup of coffee.

But I love to get breakfast in restaurants. I usually get French toast with two eggs over medium and bacon or sausage depending on the restaurant. I like to dip my bacon or sausage in the syrup.

It's funny how many breakfast foods amount to a dessert with added vitamins (which supposedly turns it into something nutritious) or the fattiest artery-clogging meal you could ever imagine.

Waffles? What's the difference between a waffle with butter and syrup and a piece of cake? The ingredients are essentially the same. And most breakfast cereals are no better -- the #1 ingredient is sugar!

Same thing with sausage and bacon. Two full days' saturated fat sitting right there.

Who says you have to eat all that? :help: Why not eat a balanced meal that draws from all the food groups in the right ratios like any meal?

Good on you, ozguy, for including a variety of the food groups (and a vegetable, no less!) and keeping it in moderation. ..| As for myself, I try include a lowfat protein source (cottage cheese, yogurt, lean sliced meat), carbos (whole wheat bread, granola), and fruit (grapefruit or oranges with orange juice). Gives me the nourishment I need to get through the morning. :D

I almost always have yogurt and a banana for breakfast. Sometimes I'll have a bit of oatmeal if I'm working out before lunch.

I never eat breakfast. My stomach doesn't wake up until lunch.

That is a beautiful tomato. I'll be glad when they are in season here.

Thanks! I should also mention that before I eat my toast & tomato, I always have a small bowl of fresh fruit salad (I usually just chop up a couple of pieces of whatever's in the fruit bowl) topped with a generous dollop of low fat yoghurt. It's a nice refreshing starter, first thing in the morning. ..|

A few months ago, I decided that from then on I would eat breakfast with some vegetables to ensure I get fiber daily, etc. So now I use frozen mixed vegetable, thaw it in the microwave and fold it into my egg mixture before cooking it. Then I top it with salsa or sometimes sliced tomato and/or bell pepper, etc. Sometimes if my appetite is bigger, I add a toasted slice of multigrain bread with some butter. A delicious way to eat daily portions of vegetables.

I normally eat blueberry or cranberry muffins for breakfast, or cornbread with honey.

All wheat-free, of course. ..|

since i was about in...oh high school (ok that's like 20 years ago now) i've not eaten breakfast. for some reason it often upsets my stomach so i tend to stay away from it. when i do eat though it's usually a slice of bacon or maybe a sausage link.

That's a very small vegemite jar! I always buy the biggest the shop has, although last time I could only get the 600g jar.

(Mostly my breakfasts include a large mug of tea, and bowl of cereal.)

Vegemite sounds like the Aussie version of Marmite. Marmite on hot buttered toast is delicious. I grew up on it.
