BREAKING: Keith Olbermann out at MSNBC, last broadcast tonight

My guess is that they had to pay Keith far more than he was worth, as far as ratings go.

It's a business, folks.

Ed Shultz stays only because he works for peanuts.

it's fun to look for conspiracies, but if this was about silencing liberal voices, why would they fire Keith Olbermann and keep Ed Shultz, who's worse than KO in every conceivable way?

Who know's if it's a conspiracy or not.Maybe Keith said ''fuck you'' to Comcast.Maybe they called him in and said ''you're gonna have to stop saying this and start saying that.'' Who knows.

Here's what we do know. He's no longer on the air.Fox News marches on and one of the few people that challenged their constant streams of lies is gone.

Maybe Fox News will stick up for the poor and social justice..Imagine that. Also, everyone talks all this head about Ed Shultz.I like what he say's but,he was a right winger at one time.In the back of my head, there is a nagging distrust of him.Maybe I'm being a hypocrite, because I do like Media Matters, and they were founded by rabid right wingers who decided to become human and expose the right wing and Fox News.Never said I was perfect, but I always go with my gut.It doesn't have the ability to doubt and it's almost always right. So,Ed Shultz, not so much.

At the end of the day,I think of it something like this. We're never going to be told the complete truth by any side. After all, even MSNBC corporate daddy was General Electric, one of the biggest war profiteers in the nation.Did you see them demanding an end to the wars and using that platform to help organize people againt it? Maybe that isn't their role, but they werent particulary vociferous in their condemnation of it either.

We are given ''pre appoved issues'' to debate and bicker about. It gives the appearance of robust debate in a free, well informed electorate. It's not.The owners of this country decide what we know about and what we don't.Wikileaks can leak shit all day.If it isn't being disccussed on TV,how many people really know about it? They'll decide what we fight about and when we move on to something else.

It's all bullshit.Meanwhile they plunder what's left of the country/world and continue to move the discussion ever more closer to the right.Eventually it will all be a monotone discussion. One big fucking corporate cheer.

I don't think so.But that should remove any doubt as to what side Obama really plays for.Hint,it isn't the working class people that voted for him.

The funny thing is, the right still screeches about him being a ''socialist.'' Since he showed up,he's saved Wall Street and Capitalism, gave them billions of dollars with little or no oversight. He's caved in on tax breaks for miilionaires.Corporate profits are at historic highs while the poor and middle class get less and less.

Then, to show us he(obama) cares, and wants to ''get America working''again,he hires a guy who outsourced thousand and thousands of U.S jobs to lead the effort..

What a Socialist.. Unreal.

They would have payed Olbermann what he was worth but the minimum wage law has teeth in it.

I was both shocked and saddened by his sudden departure as I watched his final moments. I tuned into MSNBC to escape the toxic lies by Fox, and the spineless "Fox Lite" reporting on CNN..

Keith will be missed! :(

You sound like a Fox hater. Toxic Lies my ass.

I swear if I didn't know who Olbermann, I would take this thread as a pointless discussion about a paid reality star.

I don't think he needs a 7 million dollar contract, air time and legions of fans to continue fighting the needs of minorities.

There is no way you can silence a person. A person is only silenced when his idea is dead.

IMO, NBC was bracing for Comcast's more conservative leaning. Effective Monday, the new lineup is:

8PM Larry O'Donnell

9pm Rachel Maddow

10pm The Ed Show

Conservative leaning? Lol, all of the above are still very much liberal.

Sheesh people, Keith leaves and everyone comes to the false conclusion that MSNBC is now suddenly conservative.

That's also why the trained elephant is motivated to perform for circus-watchers, LOL.

The Republican elephants are giving each other high-fives, now that there is ALMOST nobody left to call them on their shit...

Meanwhile, the Bread-and-Circuses will continue as usual.

Good riddance to the ultra-liberal character douche. His special rant on Prop 8 was a huge embarrassment to not only himself, but to gay people and everyone else who supports marriage equality.

Jon Stewart and Rachael Maddow do amazing jobs of that already.

I can't stand Lawrence O'Donnell or Rachel Maddow. However, I must give them props that they are more than willing to mix it up with the opposition. Olbermann NEVER had a guest on who disagreed with him. He had the same tired group of bootlickers (if I saw Howard Fineman on his show one more time, I would scream) as his guests. Why the different approach between O'Donnell and Olbermann? Simple, Keith just wasn't that bright.

Olbermann quit because he wanted more money .... he got greedy.

see the thread in CE&P for the links.

I usually tuned into Olbermann to put some balance to news I also watched on FOX. I then flip to CNN and someplace in the blend of all three is usually a shread of truth.

I have met Rachel Maddow and find her to have not only researched her topics, but she is also very good at reporting.

It is sad that there has to be a "right", "left" and "light" NEWS program. When I studied journalism, the job of a journalist was to take information and present it without hint of opinion. I believe the concept of adding one's opinion made it "yellow journalism" and was very much like snow that bears the same color: and what it is likely worth.

While I could watch Olbermann, often for entertainment, I must admit I cannot do the same with Glen Beck. I walked down to his event in DC so I could feel young amongst his crowd.

I suspect that Olbermann faced some pressure from corporate and that after his suspension for contributions this year, he decided to take leave. If you look at his record, the MSNBC gig was one of his longest. He also has not had a smooth work history.

By definition, people greedy for money do not quit their jobs. Yes, he desired to be paid more (we all do, shocking!). Since he believes he can earn what he thinks he is worth elsewhere, he quit. That does not make him greedy.

that was a rumor from an anonymous blogger that has been passed all over the internet by conservatives.

"This was all Keith's choice. He has several times over the years said that he wants out of his contract. He never meant it until this year. He started lawyers negotiating twice this year. He stopped them in the spring. Then, about a month ago with the guidance of his new ICM team and a new LA manager (who were making zero $ on his current deal), he once again said he wanted to leave and this time they negotiated the full package.

Here's how it went down. Sources familiar with the situation tell us that Olbermann's agent recently went to NBC complaining that Keith -- who has the most popular show on MSNBC -- was underpaid at $7 million per year. NBC execs told Olbermann's agent they would not cough up any more money.

That damn conservative site -- TMZ.
