After knowing her for over ten years I can no longer take the drama. She let me down so many times, kept lots of things from me and for the last few years became very possessive, so much so, that a couple of people point it out to me. She and her husband move to a retirement community even though they barely qualified because they are the youngest people there. Then they started telling me about all the things they get from the old people. They made friends with an 85 year old man with money and I feel that they take advantage of him, using his fancy cars, getting him to pay for vacations, etc. Bu the last straw was when they got him to buy a huge and very expensive motor home. I know that it is not my business and I want to keep it that way, just don’t want to hear about it. What do you think?

I learned a long time ago that just because you have been close friends with someone for a long time that doesn't excuse their recent behaviour. It also doesn't mean you have to feel guilty about cutting them from your life.
Over the past 10 years I have jettisoned three longstanding friendships that had turned toxic.
One of them actually told me, while stabbing me in the back, that he understood if I cut him from my life as he knew I could, and have, done it before. He tried to buy my continuing friendship and, I am slightly ashamed to say, I waited til he had shelled out as he promised before I blocked him.
I have got too old to put up with constant negativity in my life.
I know some people find it really hard to ignore people, but you should grit your teeth and do it. You will feel the benefit.
