damn! some of the comments in this thread are nasty! it's always so much easier to hide behind a monitor and rip people to threads...i'd love to see how many of you could pull off something half as good given what she has been through in the last couple of years! and no, i'm not a britney fan...but all this craziness over her performance is ridiculous! so she didn't sing it live...so she stumbled a few times and messed up on a few of her moves?? so what??? big deal! it was still enjoyable...and the song is DAMN good IMO, best thing since i've heard in a while actually!

That's not the point. I'm guessing you're not into Pop performances but she did excel in that at one point. She was never a great singer but she could kill the stage. Today she is both a lipsyncher and a mediocre dancer so she has nothing going for her, but it's not an excuse to say she was always talentless when she clearly had performing talent. God knows what happened.

thank you!!! i've always hated on Britney about something or other but one thing i could say about her was stage performances were usually off the hook. i was surprised that people were bothered by the the lip-synching thing because of all the performances of hers that i've seen she was lip-synching. she's definately not the greatest singer in the 1st place but the girl can MOVE when she wants to

Cruz, Christina wouldn't try to rock the stage like Brit because she dosent have to. She has the vocals and with that alone she is able to entertain.

According to the predictable Christina fanboy over here, Britney's peforming skills are so bad and all about stunts and her dancing is so average. Now take someone who has no stage presence whatsoever and put her on a stage with a snake (AND a mic off, ok) - just how good would they do? Not many could pull off a Britney performance just because of the stunts. It's scary how delusional people are, I'm sure there are other people who don't think she was a great performer are DEFINITELY in the minority. She didn't just perform with the two of the greatest performers ever (Michael and Madonna), sorry.

You want someone completely talentless? Please, give Paris Hilton Britney's VMA performances concepts and I'll be damned if she comes close to Britney's level.

As for the madonna performance, Brit was getting the attention because people were more surprised that she would do a stunt like that.

Um, really? I'm gonna disagree with that completely. Britney's already danced half naked with a snake and made a striptease show on previous VMA's not to mention had several people licking her face on a video. She started the virgin/whore image with BOMT, Christina just followed. Same with Slave and Dirty. If anyone is supposed to make sexual controversy on stage, it's her.

Also Xtina isn't the only artist to talk about sex in an interview.

LOL, and? Britney isn't the first one to have a horrible VMA performance but look what a big deal that was. Christina is a big attention whore herself and anyone who fails to realize that is just blind. You want someone who isn't an attention whore, fine - Alicia Keys, Norah Jones, Carrie Underwood, etc. Not Christina freaking Aguilera.

Anyway, even years ago she had negative reviews, everyone has them. Still, the GENERAL opinion was that she was a good performer and a not so good singer/role model.

For example, Aguilera's singing irks me for the most part but I can still accept that the general opinion is that she's a good vocalist.

Michael, the king of all Pop performers, chose Britney Spears out of all people to perform with him and you have your comfortable reason for that. Like he couldn't have chosen Madonna or somebody else for publicity.

Britney gives a show full of great dancing and stage presence while holding a snake for like 30 seconds (Slave @ the VMA's) and your reply is "It doesn't take stage presence to walk forward with a snake around your neck" when that's just a small part in the performance and her stage presence is actually stronger in the parts without the snake. Because I PERSONALLY think the dancing was just ok--average. Just like every other performance she's ever done. That's why I focused on the snake, because it's the only part of the performance that was remotely impressive, and without the snake, I don't think anyone would have remembered it.

You think she gives a great show, I don't. I've seen her concerts. There's lots of dancers running around, flashing lights, costumes, but when you just focus on HER, it's nothing impressive. Surely not impressive enough to make up for the completely lack of singing talent in any way shape or form.

I think it was clear that if I hated this VMA performance, I wasn't big on the HOB shows as well and wasn't referring to them, but anyway.

I don't "think" she was considered a good Pop performer/dancer. There was plenty of feedback from the press and the critics, even those that hated the lipping admitted she was good at dancing and so on.

There's a reason why most people were shocked with the new performance, the general belief was that she was a good performer. Now if she was set to perform a ballad somewhere and sucked, no one would be shocked or that hysterical because the general public's opinion about her voice wasn't great in the first place.

She made lists being up there with Janet, Madonna and Michael (and performed with 2 of them). LOL@"Britney publicity > Madonna publicity". I'm sure a performance of the King of Pop with the Queen of Pop would've been just as explosive if not even historical.

We're gonna have to agree to disagree but do take a look at the dancing at 1:45-2:15. So you think just about every avarage girl you'd pick off the street could dance like that? Seriously?

I just saw the recaps and she appeared wasted. Her career might be over. Also, her personal life. With what she been displaying hopefully she will keep her children. I hope I am wrong. Britney just need to step back and take care of herself.
