Spears has sold over 83 million albums worldwide according to Zomba Label Group. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) ranks her as the eighth best-selling female artist in American music history, having sold 31 million albums in the U.S.

If you go to the RIAA website, yes... if you include videos and singles and albums, the total is about 35 million in the US.. nearly half of which is her first album. I suppose if she's as big in the rest of the world, the 80 million number is conceivable although it includes everything.. not just albums.

What I find most telling is that her last album sold 2 million... a lot less than the 15 of her first. But hey... still a lot better than I would have thought.

she is a successful woman , whatever she does in her life , is her life, nobody is perfect and we all make mistakes , and we all have bad habbits, just because her life is maximized all over the place doesn't give us the right to judge her and call her names. fuck among all people , gays should be more tolerant , we are so prejudged and we prejudge everyone else!

Oversynthasized vocals that, in the end, would sound the same if I sang them, and a stage presence that is equvivalent to a confused stagger? $700,000 a month would go a long way for promoting artists that are worth while. Real artists. She cannot sing, she cannot perform, she can't even lip synch well. She may have done these things with a small (ie: tiny) margin of ability in the past, but this deuce of a record is the final nail in the coffin.

you don't have to defend her. and I'm not trying to defend drug addicts either, but what does her music has to do with her life...

Where does she make the money to pay for those fun addictions? Oh yea, her loyal fans. It makes me angry that my consumer dollars are indirectly paying for this trainwreck's train wrecking and drug abuse. THAT'S what her life has to do with her music.

This is why I love Britney Spears. When I was 7 years old I was obsessed with her. My walls were covered in her pictures and I used to get to go to her concerts every time she came to town. "Baby One More TIme" was the first cd I ever owned. I will continue to support her making music until I die. I will not support her lifestyle though. I hate that she might be on drugs and I hate that she has had her children taken away but it was her own fault. It's not my life so I just want to stay out of it. I will always love her music it's always made me smile when I hear it and thats what counts for me.

I think it's disappointing how pretty everyone here can be so mature in other threads but when it comes down to Briney Spears or any other celebrity that people are pretending to hate you all turn into the bitchy cheerleader type.

She still has to prove to the judge that she is a fit parent With parenting classes. That said I have her previous albums and will probably get this one too - but I am not that excited that I am going to rush out and get it.

Hate her all you want but she's damn successful. Even right now with her big iTunes hit (which counts more than airplay in her case).

Now just to clear up some uninformed claims:
Her first album sold around 14 million in the US and about 27 million worldwide. One of biggest CD's ever. SIX MILLION?

Her fourth album did not sell 2 million in the US, it sold 3. And 8 worldwide. Obviously times have changed since 1999 so you can't compare it to her previous releases but it was still one of the biggest albums that year which is the only way to compare really.

A big first week isn't so "easy" to get. J.Lo promoted a lot but ended up debuting out of the top 10 with 50k sold.

Make all the excuses you want but it's amazing her music's still selling in her current state, even if it doesn't have longevity (and it won't. Not because she's over but because she won't promote and this is just a random release because her label wants some money).

Instead of whining about her huge salary (which she used to work hard for in the distant past), try and make 1/10 that money yourself.

Based on what I have heard of her music recently, there's very little of her and a whole lot of pro-tooling and over-producing.

I get the feeling she had about as much input into the title of her CD as she had over the "musical" content.

It's an amazing team of marketers and producers that are running the show right now, with Britney being more of a 'figurehead' than anything else....

She actually had a little interview with Ryan Searcest earlier and she couldn't even name the producer. She was being a total dimwit, she said her album was "cute" and she was all "cool" with her friends during the interview. Actually, half the interview was just her attention-starved "friends" saying they're waking her up now. She sounds done as a person.
