Hi guys,

I recently paid for my internet broadband to be upgraded from 1Mb to 4Mb - I reset the little black box etc etc, but the connection speed still says 10.0Mbps - it hasn't changed and to be honest I aint noticed any difference.

10.0Mbps means absoultely nothing me! Any Ideas? (I'll call the company as a last resort since it's like £1 per minute!)

Cheers guys,

Noni xxx

if you've not noticed a difference, then i'd guess the extra speed isn't being used for things you do most often on the web. personally i wouldn't keep the higher seed/price if you don't notice an improvement.

I have my computer set up with cable and I believe it is also called a broadband connection and my speed is 100Mb so if your only getting 10Mb you are getting ripped off. I also have everythng going thru cable. TV,computer and telephone. It is much cheaper than paying everything seperately and it gives me unlimited long distance calling. My phone bill alone use to be $200-$400 per month I couldn't afford that.

100Mb and 10Mb are both speeds that your computer is connected to the modem or router at not the speed of your actual service.. there is no cable internet service that runs at 100Mb.. i have pretty fast service at 6

^ LOL! A T3 connection is the equivalent of twenty-eight T1 lines, and even a T3 is only 45 Mbs!

100 Mbs is faster than two T3 trunk lines (= 56 T1 connections)!!!:D

(No offense, jonjon. But that would be one lightening-fast internet connection!)

Oh, you're talking about that racing car website he sent me too -with the dials n shit - I kept looking for the wild goose i was supposed to be chasing. ](*,)

Anyone got it in plain English i.e. "Good Morning Mr. Nonimus, you Internet Broadband speed is currentlly...."

I have a 2Mb download speed but most servers I download from can't maintain this speed, many struggle at 50KB = 500Mb approx so when I upgraded from 1 to 2 Mb if made very little difference on a lot of sites.

In other words, you may have paid for a Ferrari, but what good is that if you never take the car outside of downtown London?

Paid for a car? Paid? :rotflmao:

LOL! I just posed with a large sea shell for the label ;)

By the way, Noni, the JUB servers are in Vancouver - half way around the world from you.

Is that where Vancouver is? Learn a new thing every day...

I'll try that speed-challenge game again, this time i gotta head for Vancouver right?

"Good morning, Mr. Nonimus. You paid for a 4 Mbs internet connection, so that is what you probably have. However, 4 Mbs = 4 megabytes per second, and that is very fast.

MBit, connections are measured in MBit! Not MB/s o_O
4Mbit are practically about 500kb/s!

lol well it's not exactly clear. but when you go to the site, it will zoom in on the area of the world you are near. the orange pyramids are the ones it suggest you use, so click on the closest one to you.

then down below in the "your results" section you need to change "speed measure" to megabits. then let it test again. here are the results of my speed test.

Download 6.1 Mb/s

Upload 0.4 Mb/s

Latency: 25 ms

so my speed is about 6 Mb

Not sure where you live and this isn't meant as a sales pitch (lol) but those speeds are offered now by Verizon. Our top internet speed now is 50Mbs in some areas over our fiber optic network. So those lightening fast speeds are out there.

Tried mine to the London server...

322 mbs download
208 mbs upload
220 latency

To the Seattle server...

245 download
213 upload
206 latency

Dunno if that's good or not.

That's with Tiscali's 1mb unlimited downloads package. But I am using the Xbox to download a couple of large demos at the moment...

Well that just looks plain wrong if it was Kb/s it would make sense as your xbox could be using the other 700K which would make it about 1 Meg.

Hmm, so far i'm besting everyone when it comes to connection speed. ;)

7530 Kbps down
563 Kbps up
11 ms ping

And my provider offers premium services up to 15,000 Kbps down.

6070 kb/s 303 kb/s 22 ms Chicago, IL ~ 250 mi
