Maybe it isn't that common in the states but it's very famous and popular in some european countries, including Portugal.
What do you think about it? Are you for it or against it? Or are kinda "meh whatever" about the whole thing?

I, personally, hate it. I think it's disgusting and speaks volumes about us as a race (human race, by the way lol)...and not in a good way. I don't see where the fun is in torturing and provoking a fellow animal (yes, we're animals too, remember) who shares our home (the planet) with us. I think it's sickening and I just CANNOT stand it. Was talking to this hot guy and then he tells me he's into bullfights, participating, etc and talk about a turn-off...NEXT!!! Fucking idiot

Here's how they're done over here:

Great, isn't it? Gee I'm so proud to live in a country that condone such a so-called "tradition"...

Back when I was a kid, many years ago, bullfighting was televised here in the states. We watched and enjoyed the shows. Then the PETA people started their protests. The shows were stopped.

Personally, I am "meh whatever" guy. I love eating steaks and know where they come from. So, bullfighting is no big deal to me.

I say give the bull a chance to gore some S-O-B before he becomes someone's dinner. At least he will get something out of the deal.

whatever. its wrong, but there are more pressing matters. if we care about animal rights (and i think we should start caring about animal rights after we have an acceptable human rights situation) then we should deal with the food industry, not with some disgusting but ultimately irrelevant tradition of some countries.

btw, i have the same stance on fur.

I believe that there are only two places now in Spain where it is still practiced as it is slowly being fazed out due to overwhelming objections to it barbaric nature.

It serves no purpose, other than to say 'Look at the bulge in my pants' from the matador before the bull, hopefully, runs him through.

For some reason, I always feel a slight smirk on my face when I see the bulls get one of them, either in the arena, on the streets with the running of the bulls, or at a rodeo.

I think they're merely trying to erradicate the killing the bull part, which is total bs but oh well...

I LOVE when the bull gets one of them! LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!

Irrelevant? It is not irrelevant when it shows how fucking barbaric and unevolved some of us still are. It's not just about the bullfights, it's about the mindset behind them, the way of thinking that's not limited only to bullfights but spreads on to other matters as well...that's why it ain't irrelevant.

We share the planet with other animals...we're all on this together so that whole "humans first, animals later" is bullshit and actually part of the problem. I don't think one is more important than the other...

It's a "sport" which should have no place in modern civilised society, and should go the way of bear-baiting and other activities by which animals are mercilessly used for the pleasure of spectators.

what i meant with "irrelevant" is that i think the bullfights cease to matter if compared to the kazillions of animals that go through the grider of the food industry. and most of those animals suffer just as much, if not more. watch a movie like "food inc." to see what i mean. think about what it means to live in a society that allows structures worse than concentration camps. (and yeah, im a vegetarian.)

and yeah, im definitly a "humans first, everything else later" kinda guy. i can see how other people may see it differently but i guess well have to agree to disagree on that one.

Are the two concerns mutually exclusive - human rights and animal rights? Can we not 'multi-task?' Can I not help out with Amnesty Int. and Medecins sans Frontieres and WWF and RSPCA, as well as bear, orangutan and otter freeing programmes? And I argue that mankind cannot respect itself until it respects the world it lives in and the animals it shares space with.

There is nothing irrelevant about the cruelty of bull-fighting supporters in France, Spain and Portugal: The behaviours of any domain are carried indirectly all around the world, whether that arena be a bull fighting ring, or a business board room peopled with supporters/tolerators of cruelty towards animals, or the same cruel and ignorant people teaching your kids. Full circle.

And the mere suggestion that the bulls gain some sort of vengeance and equity for one day a year with the bull runs speaks to sheer and utter stupidity: Assigning human attributes of retribution to a bull is astounding! And even if we were speaking about an animal with the capacity and inclination to exact vengeance upon those who would bring it such torment and agony, one day of people who choose to run with bulls hardly balances the scales.

I don't like any animals ever getting hurt/killed unfairly, but I have to say I enjoy eating meat & could never not eat meat ... I believe humans have been omnivores since we existed & as long as we only kill the animals we need to for food it's OK ... but I do agree I wish they'd make more humane ways to get eggs/meat ... but having to kill animals for food is never pleasant ... I'm just really happy a lot of animals are off-limits for food except for a few fucked up contries/people ... Anyway I wish they was a way to have meat & let the animals know that most humans just enjoy it too much to not eat them ...

From an entertainment perspective, it does not entertain me. I'm indifferent. I do feel that it is a form of animal cruelty and I have no sympathy for matadors or others, if they are injured by an enraged bull as result.

I think it is uncivilized and it pleases me when the bull wins, even if only temporarily.

I love it when the bull gores the matador.

Enough is enough.

It may give a chub to Ernest Hemingway and knuckle dragging testosterone junkies in Spain, but it just makes me think that it is the kind of thing that proves how bad humans can behave.

I am all for replacing the bull with another sexy matador. I will pay good money to watch them wrestle it out.

In that video, were they stabbing sticks into the bull? I hate these people.

I was busy with something and only saw up to the part where they were putting sticks in him. I now saw the part where it fell over and starting spiting out blood. I wish I could do something.

I'm with you! It disgusts me! The bull is at an extreme disadvantage, and torturing this creature for the public's amusement is barbaric. So often I hear how much more evolved "we" are as a culture vs. the Roman arena matches. I disagree. So many people act as if bullfighting is somehow different than fighting/torturing humans. Or dogfighting. Or cockfighting. They all are disgusting, in the extreme!

Every once in a while their uppance does come.
