Charlie.
I have known Charlie for only a few weeks and once again my life is turned upside down. We first met when a friend, Corinne, came by for a visit and brought Charlie with her. They were only going to come for coffee but stayed till dinner time whilst we chatted away.
And now just a few weeks later, next to me is a dark haired beauty, snoring away, while I try to be quiet, so as not to wake Charlie with my typing. Mind you I feel tired myself after the long walk we went for this morning exploring the countryside of Ingrave and Herongate.
In case you're wondering why I fell in love with Charlie, well here's a pic. I mean wouldn't you?
She's a 9 y/o Staffordshire bull terrier bitch and a rescue dog. Corinne, who rescues dogs. brought her over the first time she came to do a house check to see if we could be suitable parents. I fell in love with her that very day, which is strange as I'm not a very doggy person. But there was something about her that felt right. I knew we'd be getting a dog at some point as Ian loves them and every time we were in town he just had to go over to every dog he met to make friends. Dogs love him back as well.
Last night - to my surprise I might add - we adopted her. She's a great dog with people and kids but other dogs are a definite no. Ian was looking for a dog he could do shows with and a certain Shitzu called Fruitpuff was a candidate he was very interested in. I was hoping like me he would want to give her a good home but didn't have much hope as he seemed so interested in Fruitpuff. He didn't even tell me we were keeping Charlie and when he told Corinne yesterday, I was so pleased, I cried.
Charlie - btw - is lying on the sofa sleeping again at the moment. She woke up after a dream a few minutes ago and has now gone back to sleep. She loves it here.
Her previous owners neglected her. When she was rescued she weighed 24 kg and was obsessed with food. Her owners went away for weekends and never walked her. She still has a bit of weight to lose, although after a week of looking after her you can already see she has lost some fat and gained muscle, so she'll have to stay on her diet and go for long walks with us. Like me she loves the cornfields and the high grasses and the woods surrounding the village. She even starts to whimper before we take her out for a walk.
Now if we can get her to behave when other dogs come to sniff her and she leans to stay out of my flower beds she'll be a perfect baby.
