Buying a Computer; What Do You Think?

If it were me, I would not buy prepackaged systems (ie Dell, Compaq, Gateway) and I'd just buy the parts I need and build my own computer (but that's not for everyone).

If you don't get a Mac, I will se to it personally that you have sex with an ugly fat woman ;)

I am in the same situation as you number2. I've been with windows since before 3.1 and converted to a Mac in February this year and am now a bit of an evangelist for them. I have however learned on here that a mac evangelist is regarded in the same way as an over zealous catholic is in the Gay community so I duck back behind the parrapit rapidly. I now have a better understanding of what Linux and OSX are up against. I might as well join the flat earth society ;)

Please don't react to this guys it's tongue in cheek and late in the evening. Just ignore me. I'm bored.

Coincidentally, I am Catholic :)

I agree with what everyone else has said so far about compaq.

In addition, I would like to point out that both PC's appear to have integrated graphics and no AGP slot. This will lead to problems if you need to upgrade the graphics processor in the future.

I think I'm now done with the thought of getting the compaq. The Dell outlet store has peaked my curiosity.

Just a quick update ... I've decided on a Dell XPS 410 from the Dell Outlet Store. I want something that won't be outdated inside a year, and this sounds like it might be the one.

What do y'all think?

I actually have an XPS 400 -- it does well. But regardless of what you buy, there's going to be something bigger and/or better in six months. Technology evolves so fast that we are never going to be able to keep up.
