So after coming into some money with a lawsuit I am debating buying a large flat screen tv

I saw an rca(40"), bundled with a dvd low powered home theater system for around 600 bucks.

I was wondering if anyone has dealt with RCA and considers them a decent brand as far as FLAT LCD TVs go.

Thanks in advance

RCA no longer makes their own flatscreens. They're made by the same company in Taiwan that makes other no-brand sets like Phillips, etc. I believe Vizio is also actually manufactured in Taiwan although they are a US based company. I've had limited experience with RCA but I think they are a pretty mediocre system. Fine, I guess, if you just want the basics. You could probably do better with a Vizio which is around the same price but a better system. You can prolly pick up a Vizio 42" LCD that is 1080 p (full HDTV, which the RCA is probably not) and a nice sound bar to go with it for the same thing you want to pay for the RCA.

Read some reviews of HDTV's at sites like BestBuy.com, Crutchfield.com, Onecall.com

You will find some go reviews by people have recently bought a manufacture's set.

I went with Sony for my main system. It had a lot of problems. I have also bought several Dynex sets from Best Buy. The color is not that great, but if you tweek it you can make it look pretty good. They are good enough for a bedroom and the guest house.

Sound bars are pretty good if you don't have the room or the money to buy a good surround system. The Visio has gotten good reviews. Try to shy away from HTIB (home theater in the box) type system. They are ususally not a very good build. It is better to buy lower cost seperates that you can upgrade at a latter date. Anything from Denon, Yahama or Onyko would be a pretty good buy.

Good luck and enjoy whatever you buy! (!)

First decide if you want LCD or Plasma? Sony and Samsung make excellent products. I debated back and for on what TV and finally purchased a Mitsubishi 46" LCD. I wish I had bought the plasma. When watching regular TV or 1080i you will have pixelation issues.....thus my wish for a plasma. When I do pop in a dvd that is 1080p the picture is absolutely amazing though.

I wouldn't buy an RCA flashlight if they made them.

I'll never again buy anything RCA....... :grrr:

Ohh, I have the same question.

My crappy $100 Insignia tube tv is on its crap last legs, so i'm going to take the dive and get a 32 inch flat screen. Stupid question: what's the difference between LCD and Plasma? I know the technology is different, but, functionally speaking, what differences can I as a consumer expect? (can't afford a plasma, but I've always been curious)

These are the two I'm looking at:

I also need to go and double check sizes and everything since I'm not sure if my stand can handle the weight, but I'm leaning towards a bigger TV since this'll be something that (I hope) will last for quite a while.

About a year ago, I went to Walmart to go look at their selection of TVs, since my old one was dying (this was after I went to Best Buy and didn't find anything that I was looking for).

Surprisingly, I found a 36" flatscreen LCD television by White-Westinghouse. I don't remember the stats specifically, but it was a steal at $550 - it has 1 cable input, 2 composite inputs (Red, Yellow, White Inputs), two component inputs (red+white, red, blue, green), two HDMA inputs, two s-video inputs as well as two VGA inputs.

I'm a gamer and a geek, so this was absolutely amazing. I could hook up all of my consoles and a PC to this machine and not have to disconnect anything in the back :)

Brought it home and it worked like a charm, still does. So go to Wal-Mart and see what they have. The picture quality might not be as "perfect" as a high-end model that costs 3 times as much, but really - who is going to notice besides an audio/visual snob?
