Buying used...

Yes, I always buy refurbished or display items for a nice discount. I rarely buy brand new laptops/computers because you can get good deals off refurbished or display ones.

I wouldn't buy used furniture from someone or a thrift store. I seen people tried to sell stained up items. Appliances is fine as long its clean. I am using the apartment supplied washer/dryer and this washer seen better days.

Ick! At least, I guess the washer working was something...

I've had a couple of bad experiences with washers that got dumped on me. One leaked water from the drain pump. Another had a eye watering stench of mold or mildew. I ran several cycles of hot water, with bleach, and whatever buildup was causing a problem did not budge. Thankfully, another washer got dumped on me. It had some issues iwth going into spin--I'd have to give it a helping hand--but at least it was clean.
 
I also have a long history of getting used books/records/DVDs/etc. Years back, I got an audio system with a good turntable. The justification for the turntable was that used record prices were so cheap then that it was a very attractive way to build a music library. It also felt like more like a lasting investment, since turntables weren't evolving as fast as CD players. About that time, one review magazine whined when they did a CD player round up that almost all the players they 'd reviewed the last six months were gone, replaced with something new.
 
Oh, yes...with books I like used partly to save $. But I also like getting books that are long out of print.
 
My washer & dryer & freezer & refrigerator are second hand bought and I've had them 3 years and they work fine, never had a problem with them, got the four for $1185.00. At the same time I also bought a brand new 65 inch Samsung television that is bolted to the wall for $1700 .00 and I'm lucky if I watch it once a week. My jeep is nearly as old as me and was probably 3rd or 4th hand when I bought it, most would say , and do, that it is a piece of shit, but I love it, it runs well and get's where I need to get. So no, I have no qualms about buying second hand.

Getting you where you need to go is the important thing.

My father had a car that looked like it had been dropped to the bottom of a very steep cliff. (Well, it wasn't really that bad--but it was far from mint, and a long term girlfriend refused to ride in the car because of the way it looked.) But, even though there were some issues (like missing 5th gear), it got him to work each day, and that was all he cared about.

I don't know Jeep that well, but I'd guess that older Jeep is a better bet than a modern Jeep. Probably more pure Jeep. And quality control was probably better than under Fiat or Stellantis. I know someone with an older Jeep who plans to keep it running forever if possible. One reason she mentions: the engine is one that is one of the best ever used, and apparently no longer available.

I am very prissy about my books so usually buy new, but I do have a nice collection of books on sexuality. I will sometimes buy a used sexuality book if the main subject is of interest and or the book is still in good condition.

I was notorious for driving "clunkers" most of my life. I was a shade tree mechanic and did most of my own repairs. One time I took my son to the lake to go fishing and the radiator blew on my old Dodge. Fortunately we had buckets and there was a ditch with water in it next to the road, we stopped and filled the radiator about every thousand feet and made it in to a small town where I bought an additive to add to the radiator, we filled it and drove home (about 35 miles) and I bought a new radiator and installed it.
Good times!
 
I dread having to get a new car. The next one may likely be the last car we have...the Pilot we have now is 10 years old and except for dings and rust runs like a charm.
We have held out because we don't actually like newer models of the Pilot, but we may just buy a used older model when the time comes.
