Investors dumped shares of CryptoLogic and other companies related to online gambling on Monday after U.S. lawmakers banned the use of credit cards, cheques and electronic money transfers in the U.S. online gambling market.

CryptoLogic, the Canadian company that makes software for the online gambling industry, saw its shares drop $4.76 to close at $19.87 on the TSX. The stock traded as low as $17.06 — a new 52-week low.

Neither do I, but I could care less if others do. This is supposed to be a free country, but Congress is determined to take freedom away from us, little by little.
 
Instead of legalising, regulating and taxing the hell out of this industry to pay off some of our
$$$ 8 or 9 TRILLION DOLLAR National Debt,
Congress says No...

I work for a gambling agency here in NY (which Ill just leave nameless) and Gov. Pataki signed into law that on-line gambling, starting in Feb will be allowed here in NY. This is HUGE for my company wich is already considered one on NYs premier gambling angencies. Good new for us, sorry to hear about you guys. Even though a lot of people look down upon gambling, it has huge revenues, and yes, the state gets a huge cut (trust me, I do a lot of the tax work for my dept).
 
I almost quit my job last winter to work for BetOnSports. They were moving their software development to my city. The work sounded interesting. The pay was good, but they wanted more hours/week than I was willing to devote.

Now that they're tits-up, I'm glad I didn't leave my current job. For once luck was on my side.

I agree with banning of online gambling!

I did NOT read ALL of the replies on this thread; but just in case it was not mentioned........

The U.S. canNOT tax "off-shore" gambling places, and there's where ALL these internet gambling sites are located.........they are off-shore for that reason (one of the reasons) and the U.S. government has NO say-so with them.

Also, citizens of the U.S. are using too much money via the credit cards and going into debt and canNOT pay off the cards. Many of the people are hooked on gambling and can NOT help themselves by gambling...

I think we have enough places to gamble in person without going on the internet and getting people into trouble who canNOT afford to be in trouble with the over-use of credit cards, etc...

..........and I live in Las Vegas where one would think I would agree, right?

An online friend of mine works in a casino in New England. He works in one of the cash booths and he's told me some horror stories of people going to his booth to get a cash advance and going through credit card after credit card trying to find one that isn't maxed out.

That's really scary. The only way the people can hope to pay off the cards is to 'Win Big', and that's not very likely.
 
the banning of online gambling doesnt bother me at all.. I never used it. I have been to Vegas a few times, and won money both times, I can beleieve some of those horror stories.. its right up there with those people that sit in the "high rollers" rooms, where the slot machines have 100, 200 and 300 dollar plays on them, and they sit there and drop that kind of money to win nothing!-- I don't get it at all
 
I am glad that they are banning online gambling...at least until they can get some control over it. Too many people, especially kids, are going online and gambling themselves into debt. Need to be regulated and made sure that the online site isn't trying to cheat you.
